“We will continue to be the defender of true democracy”

The commemoration ceremony held at the Kubilay Monument in the Martyrdom ended with the placing of red carnations in the Yıldıztepe Martyrs' Cemetery. After the official ceremony, the march organized by the Atatürkist Thought Association started. The cortege marched from Menemen İZBAN Station to the martyrdom, accompanied by slogans and marches. Speaking at the ceremony in the field, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu said, “The Menemen Incident was an uprising of the intolerance felt against the revolutions made after the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, the unity of the Turkish society, and the rebuilding of a nation. Today, we must continue to work with all our might to live together in this beautiful country, in a brotherly manner, embracing all differences, and in an order where everyone has equal rights and freedoms. Democracy is a culture and consciousness phenomenon. We will continue to be the defenders of true democracy and to fight.”

“Next year, we will be able to say sleep well to our martyrs”

Speaking at the ceremony, ADD President Dr. Hüsnü Bozkurt said, “We need to fight for the Atatürk Republic like Kubilay once again. Next year, we will be able to say sleep well to our martyrs.”

“It is the duty of teachers to enlighten ignorance”

Kadem Özbay, President of Eğitim-İş said, “We know that there is not a single perpetrator of violence or murder, this is a mentality. This mentality is also ignorance. Clarifying this ignorance is the main duty of all republican teachers who feel the light of the head teacher.”

Mehmet Balık, Chairman of the United Public-Business Confederation, said, “They died for the survival of this state and this republic. Martyrs were the first to resist the reaction. We, millions of public workers, continue to struggle with the same reaction," he said.
