Ankara Metropolitan Municipality continues its superstructure works without interruption in order to solve the problems that have been neglected for years and waiting for urgent solutions in the Capital. Comprehensive maintenance and repair work will be initiated on the Çankaya-Mamak (Imrahor) Viaduct, the construction of which began in 1992 and was completed in 1998, due to wear and tear due to use. While the works planned to be started in January 2023 are aimed to be completed in the first half of the year with a cost of approximately 50 million liras, the bridge will not be closed to vehicle traffic during the works.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality continues its efforts to provide a more comfortable and reliable transportation to the citizens of the Capital.
ABB, which relieves the traffic of Başkent with new roads, bridges and crossroads, also carries out maintenance, repair and renovation works on the main arteries, streets, boulevards and bridges in its area of responsibility.
VIADUCT WILL BE TAKEN INTENSIVE CARE
ABB Department of Urban Aesthetics is preparing to start maintenance and repair work on the Çankaya-Mamak (İmrahor) Viaduct, which was built to connect Çankaya and Mamak districts and to reduce time loss in traffic.
The viaduct, the construction of which began in 1992 and was completed in 8 with an 1998-kilometer connection, will be taken into intensive care due to the wear and tear that has occurred over a 25-year period.
While the works planned to be started in January 2023 are aimed to be completed in the first half of the year with a cost of approximately 50 million liras, the bridge will not be closed to vehicle traffic during the works.
THE LIFE OF THE VIADUCT WILL EXTEND
Making a statement about the works to be carried out, Ahmet Turan Söylemez, Head of the Department of Urban Aesthetics, said that the Çankaya-Mamak (Imrahor) Viaduct, which is the longest post-tensioned (reinforced reinforced concrete balanced console) structure built under the conditions of that time in Turkey with a total length of 604 meters, is 64 meters high. He stated that it was among the visionary projects of the period. Noting that the traffic density on the bridge is increasing gradually, Söylemez said, “We expect it to become a much more critical infrastructure facility in the coming years. This bridge is about 30 years old. In this type of bridges, after 10 thousand days, there is a need for a maintenance that we can call half-life maintenance and a review of the bearing elements.”
Noting that this kind of maintenance was also carried out in similar examples around the world, he said:
“Now it's time for our bridge to be taken care of. We follow this both from our observations and from the increasing complaints of our drivers who use this place. Thereupon, we started our studies on this bridge as of the summer months. Here, we benefited from international consultants specialized in this construction technique and our valuable teacher Erhan Karaesmen from the Middle East Technical University. As a result, our observations turned out to be correct. Now it became clear that the bridge had to be intervened. We have completed our preparations, we have done our modeling work and we have determined what kind of intervention will be made. By completing the works on this bridge with the spring months, we will increase the life of the bridge for another 30 years and offer it to the safe use of our valuable citizens.”
With the work to be carried out, citizens will have a more comfortable transportation opportunity and the life of the viaduct will be extended.
