The final event of the National High School Students National Student Congress and Poster Presentation Competition in the fields of Environment and Climate Change and Mathematics, covering all public schools at the secondary education level in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education and TÜBİTAK, was held with the participation of Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer.

Speaking at the event, Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer pointed out that the most permanent capital of countries is human capital and emphasized that education is the most important instrument in increasing the quality of this capital.

Sharing the data of the early 2000s, Minister Özer reminded that at the beginning of the 2000s, the schooling rates for 5-year-olds were 11 percent, and 44 percent in secondary education. Expressing that there has been a mobilization in the field of education in the last 20 years, Özer stated that thanks to this mobilization, the schooling rate at the age of 5 has increased to 99 percent. Özer said, “Primary school increased 99.63 percent, secondary school 99.44 percent, and secondary education increased from 44 percent to 95 percent.” said. Noting that for the first time in this period, children were given the opportunity to go to school regardless of their economic income and gender, Özer said, “This is the result of the mobilization carried out in the last twenty years under the leadership of our President. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mr. President for all his support and for always allocating the biggest share to the Ministry of National Education in the budget.” he said.

“We are working day and night so that you can receive quality education”

Emphasizing that the Ministry of National Education works day and night to ensure that students receive quality education, Özer said that they make an effort to ensure that students reach the highest quality education without regional differences and school type differences.

Özer continued his words as follows: “Here, one of the most important institutions in these studies is the science and art centers (BİLSEM). As you know, we support our gifted students to develop their talents at BİLSEM. We provide very serious support to improve both their academic skills and their skills in visual arts and music. As the Ministry of National Education, we increased our number of 185 BİLSEMs to 2022 in 379 in order to facilitate access to BİLSEMs. What we want is to provide easy access to BİLSEMs for all our students. We have a surprise for you in 2023: We will establish BİLSEM in all our districts. Thus, you will ensure that our students can access BİLSEM in their district, not BİLSEM, which is thirty kilometers, fifty kilometers, one hundred kilometers away.”

Explaining that this is one of the most important elements of the "Vision of Turkey" outlined by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Özer noted that another issue they attach importance to is intellectual property and industrial rights. Underlining that the most important component in the development of countries is to ensure the spread of intellectual property culture related to patents, utility models, brands and designs in all educational institutions, Minister Özer continued his words as follows: “The number of products registered by the Ministry of National Education in the context of intellectual property in the last 10 years 2,9; that is 3 percent. We cooperated with the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. We carried out a very serious training campaign and made efforts to register 2022 products in 7. At the end of 500, we have registered 2022 patents, utility models, brands and designs. We were able to commercialize 8 of them. In other words, the Ministry of National Education continues to support our schools in a way that increases the quality of education on the one hand and the capacity of innovative initiatives on the other hand.”

Emphasizing that there are two important topics in the National Student Congress and Poster Presentation Competition for High School Students, organized in cooperation with TÜBİTAK, Özer said; He said that Turkish, foreign language and mathematics education are among the priority areas of the Ministry. Stating that the environment and climate change are the backbone of education, Özer said that the topics of the student congress overlap with the priorities of the Ministry of National Education.

Özer, who thanked the President of TÜBİTAK and everyone who contributed to the process for his support, also had a suggestion: Özer, who suggested that the event be held every month, said, “I hope we bring our high school students from 81 provinces to Ankara every month. Let's bring together cultural and artistic activities. Let's also do a workshop on a thematic topic.” said.
