Harran University Hospital Orthopedics and Traumatology Department treated a patient with bone decay problem by applying hip arthroscopy method for the first time in the region.

Şanlıurfa Harran University Hospital continues to be a pioneer in the region with the treatment methods it has developed. A 39-year-old patient named Abdulkadir Biçer, who had infection and osteoporosis, was treated with a method applied for the first time in the region by the Orthopedics and Traumatology Department. While the treatment performed with the hip arthroscopy method performed with the camera will be a pioneer in the region, the infrastructure and team prepared for this method will provide fast and effective treatment in future cases.

Harran University Hospital Orthopedics and Traumatology Department Head Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akif Altay said that as the orthopedic clinic of Harran University Hospital, they have been serving both Şanlıurfa and the region for more than 25 years in the field of joint surgery performed with the arthroscopic method, that is, with the camera.

prof. Dr. Altay said, “The arthroscopic surgical approach for the hip joint has started to develop in the world in the last few years, and it is a surgical approach that is applied in only 3 big cities in our country in a limited number of times, by entering the hip joint with the help of a camera without opening the joint. Our application of arthroscopic surgical approach to the hip joint, with the support of the new devices we received in our clinic, is of great importance for both our region and our city.

Hip arthroscopy is a work that requires a serious experience, technological infrastructure and team, and we continue our preparations and procedures with a team of about 20 people, consisting of orthopedic surgery anesthesia assistant nurses and staff. It is a proud development for all of us that this system, which has just started in our country and has not yet been implemented in the east of Ankara, was started in the orthopedics clinic of Şanlıurfa Harran University Research and Practice Hospital. I want to thank everyone who contributed,” he said.

Şanlıurfa Harran University Chief Physician Assoc. Dr. İdris Kırhan, on the other hand, stated that a very valuable study was carried out and that they were proud to apply this treatment method for the first time in the region. Chief Physician Assoc. Dr. Kırhan said, “After metropolitan cities in the west, we performed a hip arthroscopy method for the first time in the east and southeast of Harran University Hospital. In this sense, Prof. Dr. I would like to thank our teacher Mehmet Akif Altay and his team very much” and added that the work done is proud.
