Banvit BRF Forest Reaches 40 Thousand Trees

Banvit BRF is implementing a new forest project that will expand the "Banvit BRF Forest" project of 20 thousand trees. Within the scope of the cooperation with the Aegean Forest Foundation in 2022, 20 thousand more saplings come to life with the forests created in the provinces of Elazig and Manisa. In line with its “2040 Net Zero” target, Banvit BRF plans to expand the Banvit BRF Forest by adding new regions and to increase the number of saplings it brings to the soil in the upcoming periods.

Banvit BRF CEO Tolga Gündüz gave information about the Banvit BRF Forests created in the Elazığ-Maden and Manisa-Yunt Mountain afforestation areas.

“As a company, we are aware of how important sustainability is to touch future lives. Our global company, BRF, plans to balance production-related greenhouse gas emissions and achieve the "Net Zero" target by carrying out activities that contribute to nature, such as afforestation projects. This sensitivity is reflected in our corporate culture and work as BRF's Turkey operation. In this context, we started our "Banvit BRF Forest" project in the Bandırma region, where our main campus is located, in 2021. Within the scope of the cooperation with the Aegean Forest Foundation in 2022, we are now creating two new forests with a total of 20 thousand trees in our provinces of Elazig and Manisa. The planting of our saplings in the afforestation area in Manisa has been completed. Our work for the Elazig region continues. We would like to thank the General Directorate of Forestry and the Aegean Forest Foundation for their support.” said.

Moving forward with a focus on sustainability…

Focusing on "Sustainable Food" in its social investments as well as in production, Banvit BRF raises students' awareness on proper nutrition and food waste with the "Smart Children's Table" project, implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education. The project has reached approximately 8 million people on digital platforms so far.

Pointing out the importance of adequate and balanced nutrition and physical movement in the first period of the project covering 2008 – 2016, Smart Kids Table focuses on the issue of "food waste and conscious food consumption" with the awareness of food sustainability in line with today's needs and priorities in its new term studies. The project is among the “17 Sustainable Development Goals” of the United Nations; ending poverty and hunger, responsible production and consumption, and climate action directly overlap and support these principles.

Banvit BRF observes sustainability principles in its production investments as well as social investments such as education and afforestation projects. In this context, the company's production facilities in Bandırma, İzmir and Elazığ operate with “Zero Waste” certificates issued by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. Thanks to the “Waste Water Recovery Facility” located in Banvit BRF's main campus, Banvit BRF recycles 43% of the water it treats in drinking water quality. The company aims to reduce water use in its facilities by 2025% by 13. In addition, studies on electricity and natural gas savings, where all processes are improved and optimized, continue.

In addition to the products produced for consumers, Banvit BRF also has a facility that processes and recycles all organic wastes generated in this process, and contributes to animal nutrition by selling the production here, especially to companies that produce fish feed or pet feed. In addition, 95% of Banvit BRF's packaging is recyclable. Efforts are also underway to ensure that 2025% of packaging materials are recyclable, reusable or biodegradable by 100.
