The library named after the literary critic and writer Doğan Hızlan was opened in Bakırköy. Speaking at the opening of the library, Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy expressed his satisfaction with opening new libraries in Istanbul and said that Doğan Hızlan is one of the few names in the world of literature with his works and gentleman personality.

Noting that Doğan Hızlan was deemed worthy of the Presidential Culture and Arts Grand Award in 2011, Ersoy said, “Our teacher Doğan is a doyen of literary criticism. Hızlan, who sheds a valuable light on the rich literature of Turkish literature with her writings, also made important contributions to social culture. Doğan Hızlan actually received the most important award with the love and respect of literature lovers for him. Istanbul's largest library will open on January 13

Pointing out that the number of libraries serving under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism reached 2022 in 1257, Ersoy said:

“We have restructured 167 public libraries and the improvement of 60 public libraries continues. In all libraries in our country, our total indoor area, which was 2018 thousand 323 square meters in 316, was increased to 2022 thousand 399 square meters in 732, and our seating capacity was increased from 97 thousand 402 to 114 thousand 906. We will make a quick start to 2023. Rami Barracks, which we will open as of January 13, will be the largest library in Istanbul. It is put into service as Turkey's second and one of the few libraries in Europe. Rami Barracks will be both an art center, a public garden and a library with features that can appeal to everyone. It will have a seating capacity of more than 4 thousand and a book capacity of 2,5 million. I am already sure that this work will suit our Istanbul very well.”

Minister Ersoy stated that the restoration of the library bearing the name of Doğan Hızlan was carried out by the Istanbul Directorate of Surveying and Monuments and the Istanbul Orhan Kemal Provincial Public Library Directorate, and said, “In the library, which has a total of 4 floors and a usage area of ​​900 square meters, there are reading-research halls, areas for our disabled citizens, education and training facilities. There are activity halls where literary conversations can be held, painting-music workshops and sports activity areas. The library, which has a seating capacity of 180 people, will also have special collections belonging to the esteemed author Doğan Hızlan. I would like to specially thank Mr. Hızlan for this valuable gift. The library, which is equipped with today's modern librarianship approach, will also have 15 thousand distinguished books and periodicals.” used the phrases.

Literary critic and writer Doğan Hızlan also pointed out that compliments made to people on such days are very valuable and said, “The library is very important. I always wrote and read librarians. Libraries have a great place in my life. Where the book is, everyone finds himself.” he said.

Hızlan also touched upon the importance of libraries serving 7 hours a day, 24 days a week, adding that libraries are places to teach people what they do not know, and that he wants to spend a lot of time in this library, which is named after him.

After the opening, Minister Ersoy and the accompanying delegation toured the library.
