Alstom will provide ERTMS Level 160, digital traffic control solutions and electrification on two lots, spanning 120 km of dual rail lines, providing speeds of 66 km/h for passenger trains and 2 km/h for freight trains.

Alstom, the world leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has signed two new signaling and electrification contracts in Romania as part of modernization work on the first two subsections of the Cluj Napoca-Oradea line. The two contracts were signed with the Asocierea RailWorks consortium, consisting of Alstom and the Romanian construction company Arcada, and the Romanian state railway infrastructure operator CFR SA. Alstom will provide state-of-the-art digital train control, traffic management solutions and electrification infrastructure and will do all the construction work in Arcada. The implementation period of each contract is 42 months.

“ These new contracts reinforce Alstom's leading position in the Romanian railway market for both digital train control and electrification. “In recent years, Bucharest has become a strategic hub for Alstom's signaling expertise, employing more than 200 qualified engineers whose expertise serves local and international projects,” says Gabriel Stanciu, Alstom Managing Director of Romania, Bulgaria and the Republic of Moldova.

The two contracts cover the modernization of the 66 km double railway line between Cluj Napoca and Poieni (30 km for Cluj Napoca – Aghireș and 36 km for Aghireș-Poieni). It includes electrification, infrastructure and superstructure modernization, signaling and telecommunications systems, and civil works. Alstom will directly oversee the ERTMS Level 2 deployment, the implementation of the traffic control solution, the digital interlocking and passenger information systems, as well as the electrification works including the power supply and overhead communication line. The modernization will provide speeds of 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight trains.

For the electrification business, Alstom will supply two Traction Power Stations and an OCS3 catenary solution for mainlines, leveraging its in-house capabilities at its manufacturing facility in Lecco, Italy, and world-class OCS3 commercial operation experience.
