The balance to be established between nature and urban life with the Sponge City model will make İzmir more resilient and every drop of water falling on the ground will be utilized. Authorities emphasize that approximately 75 million tons of rain water falls on the roofs of İzmir annually, which is more than the amount of water provided by Tahtalı Dam in a year.

Sponge Kent pilot projects will be implemented in stages. It is aimed to transform İzmir into a sponge city within 5 years.
