Wagons carrying NATO tanks, which were shipped from Alexandroupoli on the Greek-Turkish border to Eastern Europe and Ukraine by rail, were derailed.

According to the news in the Greek press, the wagons carrying NATO tanks were derailed in the part of the railway in Alexandroupoli called the French Station. It was not reported whether there was material damage to tanks and armored vehicles.

Greek media reminded the statement of Greek Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis that “We are at war with Russia” and wrote that it is "very dangerous" to ship NATO tanks to Eastern Europe and Ukraine via Greece.

NATO donated hundreds of tanks to support Ukraine in its war with Russia, and used bases in Poland to repair damaged tanks.

Alexandroupoli has come to the fore many times with the military base established by the USA against Turkey and hosting hundreds of armored vehicles and dozens of helicopters.

Located on the border with Turkey and where Western Thrace Turks live as a minority, the Alexandroupolis region is used for the military build-up of the United States and for the shipment of weapons to the Ukraine war.
