Emphasizing that maritime transport, which undertakes approximately 86 percent of the world trade volume, is the backbone of global trade, Karaismailoğlu said that maritime, where the cargo volume has grown more than 50 times in the last 20 years, is the most strategic sector. Pointing out that approximately 2021 percent of the cargoes for import purposes and about 93 percent of the cargoes for export purposes were transported by sea in 81 in Turkey, Karaismailoğlu said, “As you can see, if there is no maritime sector in order to have a strong economy and a voice in the world, not possible. We took giant steps to carry the maritime industry to today's global and competitive world, by taking the wind of the atmosphere of stability and trust in our country. Today, with our 31,3 million dead-ton capacity, we have risen to the 15th rank in terms of the global maritime merchant fleet. With our tonnage of 36 million dead-tons at the end of the year, we expect to move up one more step in the world ranking and rise to the 14th rank. Karaismailoğlu, Minister of Transport, noted that they continued their "infrastructure attack" in maritime as well, adding that they achieved a great success and increased the number of shipyards to 2002, which was only 37 in 84, and the number of ports to 149, which was 217. Karaismailoğlu said, “Thanks to the measures we have taken, despite the pandemic, our country has grown in the maritime sector in 2020 and in 2021,” Karaismailoğlu said, adding that the world has closed the last 2 years with shrinkage.
Karaismailoğlu said, “There was a 1,2 percent decrease in container handling and a 3,8 percent decrease in total cargo handling. However, the amount of containers handled at our country's ports increased by 8,3 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to 12,6 million TEUs last year. We increased our total amount of cargo handled by 6 percent compared to the previous year. We increased it to 526 million tons. We anticipate that we will continue our growth this year and that a total of 2022 million tons of cargo will be handled by the end of 545. In the January-October 2022 period, despite the Russia-Ukraine war, a 5 percent increase was recorded in the amount of cargo handled at our ports compared to the same period of the previous year. Despite the economic crisis in the world, the shrinkage in the country's economies, the danger of stagnation and the wars, these figures that our country has achieved only in maritime trade are an important part of the success story we have written on the way we are walking with the target of investment, employment, production, export and current account surplus.

NUMBER OF PRIVATE BOATS REACHED 111 THOUSANDS
Explaining that they also contributed to the production of private boats with the widespread maritime culture, Karaismailoğlu said, “Despite the pandemic conditions, the number of private boats was recorded in 4 thousand new boat mooring logs, 39 thousand of which were newly built, in the 62 years the project continued, and the total number of private boats reached 49 thousand from 111 thousand. . We believe that these numbers will continue to increase with our efforts; We anticipate that sea tourism will also be positively affected by this growth. WE SIGNED AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY COOPERATION PROTOCOL FOR GIRL STUDENTS OF THE MARITIME DEPARTMENT
Pointing out that as the Ministry, they have taken and continue to take important steps not only for amateur seafarers but also for ship crews, Karaismailoğlu said, “The processes such as training, exams, promotions and qualification renewals, which our ship people are subject to throughout their entire sea life, should be at world standards by our Ministry. In order to make these much easier and faster, we renewed the Ship People Information System and put it into operation as of 15 August 2022. Thanks to this project, all maritime operations of our 135 active ship crew can be carried out much faster, without documents and in a secure manner. Our Ministry will continue its investments in 2023 to strengthen the workforce and create youth employment in the maritime sector. In this context, our Ministry provides opportunities to include female students who face more difficulties in finding internship opportunities. An Equal Opportunity Collaboration Protocol was signed with 15 of the leading companies in our industry for our maritime undergraduate girls to complete their compulsory sea internships. We carried our internship mobilization to 2023. In addition, taking into account the reports that the officer deficit will increase in the coming years in the world, it is among our most important priorities to fill this deficit by Turkish ship crews.”

Expressing that they have established 21 Regional Port Presidency in order for Turkey to provide better service to the maritime sector, ensure its sustainability and further strengthen the maritime organization, Karaismailoğlu said that with these regional port authorities, they will provide much faster and more effective service and will add strength to the power of the maritime administration. Reminding that they have updated the Golden Frank value of the tolls of the ships transiting through the Straits, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu said, “We have increased the lighthouse and salvage fees received from the ships transiting through the Turkish Straits approximately 5 times, and we will update this fee every 1 July from now on. Karaismailoğlu underlined that they will invest another 2053 billion dollars in the maritime sector until 21,6, and that they will contribute 180 billion dollars to the national income. “Our impact on production will exceed $320 billion. “In our 2053 Transport and Logistics Master Plan, we have reserved a special place for maritime lines, the basis of our Blue Homeland and the key point of integration in transportation. Accordingly: We will increase the number of port facilities from 217 to 255. We will expand the Green Port applications. We will ensure that a high rate of renewable energy resources are used in our ports. Autonomous cruises will be developed and handling efficiency will be increased with autonomous systems at ports. We will create specialized ports with strengthened logistics infrastructures. We will further expand the transit service capacity of the ports and develop the multi-modal and short-distance maritime transport infrastructure that can serve the countries of the region. With Kanal Istanbul, one of the most important transportation projects not only in our country but also in the world, we will strengthen Turkey's role in maritime transportation. When completed, in addition to ensuring the safety of life and property in and around the Bosphorus, and protecting the historical and cultural texture of the Bosphorus; It will alleviate the traffic load of the Bosphorus by reducing the waiting times at the entrance and exit of the Bosphorus.”
