Moscow Metro carried out the technical commissioning of the section of the Big Circle Line between Kakhovskaya and Kashirskaya stations. The section is the former Kakhovskaya line (Line 11A), the shortest line in the network, temporarily closed for modernization and further integration into the BCL.
Kakhovskaya station reopened in 2021 and the new ring line is planned to be one of the most important transport hubs; Transfer to Line 2. Moscow completed the work at Varshavskaya and Kashirskaya stations, which will serve huge areas with a population of about 500 thousand, in December 2022.
Before the reconstruction, the Kakhovskaya line was not popular enough. The line shortened trains and 5-minute intervals. After the line becomes part of BCL, the interval will be reduced to 1,6 minutes, the wagons will consist of about 100 modern Russian-made Moscow-2020 trains.
BCL's 22 stations have already opened, 10 of which entered service in December last year. The line will have 31 stations in total. With a length of 70 km, the Big Circle Line will be the longest metro circle line in the world, surpassing the hitherto world leader Beijing Circle Line (Line 10).
