Speaking at the mass opening ceremony in Mardin, President Erdoğan said that Mardin Airport was named after Mardin Prof. Dr. announced that it will be renamed as Aziz Sancar Airport.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the collective opening ceremony of the “Mardin Derik Plain Irrigation”, “Midyat-Nusaybin Road”, “Ömerli and Dargeçit Natural Gas Supply” and other completed projects.
President Erdoğan made statements on the agenda here. Reminding that they built 5 new classrooms in Mardin and established Artuklu University, President Erdoğan said that they opened higher education dormitories with a capacity of 764 people in youth and sports and added 4 sports facilities.
Stating that they have transferred a total of 8,5 billion liras to the needy citizens of Mardin, President Erdoğan continued as follows:
“In healthcare, we have built and offered 1124 healthcare facilities, including 14 hospitals with 36 beds. In environment and urban planning, we have completed the construction of 8 houses and delivered them to their beneficiaries by TOKİ. The construction of 907 houses continues. In addition, in our last campaign, we will build 690 thousand 2 houses in Mardin and give our citizens 550 thousand 17 detached and joint lands with ready infrastructure. Do you know how many kilometers we took Mardin in transportation? We took over from 500 kilometers and increased the divided road length to 29 kilometers in total. We are extending our Karaman-Adana-Gaziantep High Speed Train Project to Mardin, hopefully.
Now we have built a new terminal building for Mardin Airport with a capacity of 3 million passengers. Something went through my heart today, 'Let's change the name of Mardin Airport to Mardin Aziz Sancar Airport.' we said. Those who accept or those who do not? It was accepted by consensus. The honor of Mardin, the name of our Nobel laureate Professor Doctor Aziz Sancar will be seen on the post of Mardin Airport when entering Mardin; Mardin Professor Doctor Aziz Sancar Airport.”
