Stating that the 11 kilometer long drinking water line that will serve in 350 neighborhoods will cost 278 million liras, Mayor Soyer said, “With the budget of more than 1 billion liras we have allocated to strengthen the infrastructure of Çeşme, we have brought an investment that is rare in Turkey to our district.” Within the scope of the third stage drinking water infrastructure works of Çeşme, all transmission lines and water network of the district that are aging and causing leaks will be renewed.

This very special situation of our district has been a serious burden on drinking water, sewage and treatment infrastructure, especially in summer months. In line with our goal of providing healthy water and a resilient infrastructure to every district and every neighborhood of Izmir, we started an investment mobilization in Çeşme with our İZSU General Directorate. We have planned all the steps that will radically solve the infrastructure problems of Çeşme, which cause leaks, smells, malfunctions and cuts.
“We will have overcome all the problems regarding drinking water”
Stating that they are working to completely renew Çeşme's drinking water network, which has completed its service life, with a three-stage planning, Mayor Soyer said, “We have come to the end of the first phase of the 200-kilometer drinking water line renovation work in the Germiyan, Ildır, Reisdere, Şifne and Yalı neighborhoods. We completed the second phase of 450 kilometers, covering Alaçatı, Ardıç, Altınyunus, Boyalık, Celal Bayar, Çakabey, Fahrettinpaşa and Ilıca neighborhoods, and brought them together with uninterrupted drinking water services. With the third phase, which we have laid the foundation of today and will be completed in three years, we will supply drinking water to 11 more neighborhoods with modern infrastructure systems. This investment of 278 million liras includes the renewal of a 350-kilometer line. When the third stage is completed, we will have overcome all the problems in terms of drinking water in Çeşme, regardless of the season and the intensity.
Temporary package treatment plant in Ovacık
Emphasizing that the steps they took to strengthen Çeşme's infrastructure were not limited to the drinking water network, Mayor Soyer continued his words as follows: “We increased the capacity of Alaçatı Wastewater Treatment Plant by 65 percent to 36 thousand cubic meters per day. With the 16-kilometer sewerage transmission line, we completely prevent domestic wastewater discharged into the sea. We have completed the project tenders for the construction of a second wastewater treatment plant in the Ovacık region. The wastewater of Ovacık Neighborhood will be treated at the facility, which will have a daily capacity of 40 thousand cubic meters. Until this facility comes into service, we will serve our district with a temporary package treatment facility. In summary, we are establishing a drinking water, sewage and treatment plant infrastructure in Çeşme that will set an example for all touristic districts on the Aegean coast. Çeşme deserves it to the fullest. That is why we are proud and happy.”
“Despite increasing costs, we do not disrupt services”
Stating that for more than three and a half years, they have put their hands under the responsibility to establish a resilient and healthy city life in 30 districts of İzmir, Mayor Soyer stated that they continue to take steps to establish the future, not to save the day, in order to produce permanent solutions to İzmir's problems. Saying, “We are actually doing exactly this while burying an investment of 1 billion dollars under the ground,” Soyer concluded his speech as follows: “Because if you make an investment of 1 billion lira visible, the effect will be completely different for Europe. But we are determined not to save the present but to build the future. What was done?
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality took over the service responsibility of Çeşme district with the law numbered 2014 in 6360. A historical investment was initiated as the drinking water network of the district completely filled its economic life and there were continuous interruptions due to faults. Within the scope of the 1st Stage drinking water line project, the project of renewing the 200-kilometer drinking water line in the Germiyan, Ildır, Reisdere, Şifne and Yalı neighborhoods has come to an end. With the 2nd stage drinking water line project, 450 kilometers of drinking water network construction was completed. Alaçatı, Ardıç, Altınyunus, Boyalık, Celal Bayar, Çakabey, Fahrettinpaşa and Ilıca neighborhoods have uninterrupted water access. With the 350-kilometer third Stage Drinking Water Line project, the foundations of which have been laid, Altınkum, Cumhuriyet, Çiftlik, Dalyan, İsmet İnönü, Musalla, Ovacık, Sakarya, Şehit Mehmet, University and 3 Eylül neighborhoods will meet with the new drinking water infrastructure.
