The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Assembly, with the unanimous decision taken in the June 2021 sessions, decided to demolish the 49-year-old Karaköy Multi-Storey Car Park, which is Istanbul's first multi-storey car park, and build a square in its place. The expected day has come for the transformation in the building, which is also planned to be built under the ground parking lot. The demolition of the 7-storey car park with a capacity of 500 vehicles serving an average of 600 vehicles per day has begun. IMM President, who witnessed the destruction of the half-century-old structure Ekrem İmamoğlualso made its evaluations on the subject at the construction site. Stating that the car park, which was started to be demolished, was built in the region that used to be a commercial center in the past, İmamoğlu said, “It was a point where certain sectors had wholesale and retail sales areas. But now this island is changing. In other words, a large part of Beyoğlu is actually changing, but this part is transforming very quickly.”

Pointing out that the change in the region has accelerated with the Galataport project, İmamoğlu said, “With this investment, its immediate surroundings have also been transformed. This place has again become a point where the tourism-oriented, hotel and other service sectors are located. This means that this place will turn into a center where the busiest national and international tourists will set foot, get to know us and see us. In this context, when we took the job here, when we first came here, we sat down with the Galataport investor company officials. sohbetOne of the determinations we made in our study was that we thought that this area does not suit here in this way. Along with the section extending towards the Karaköy Pier, a project has been developed that will enable the acquisition of an enormous area, the square, which is over 7000 square meters in this tightness of the city, without even realizing it.”

I am proud and happy to achieve such a good job, and to experience the good result of making such an investment, so to speak, not by the Istanbulite, but by the investor. WHEN THE PROJECT IS COMPLETED, BEYOĞLU'S FACE WILL CHANGE

Within the scope of the construction, the existing floor car park will be removed and an underground car park supported by specially designed mechanisms will be built, while maintaining the same vehicle capacity. The empty space that will be created in the projection of the removed building will be designed as a square. In the square; There will be multi-purpose event spaces, seating groups and viewing areas to be used in cultural and artistic events.
