President Ekrem Yüce, together with the council members, reached the SGM, where the December council meeting will be held, by bicycle. Presenting bicycles to the council members to encourage the use of bicycles, Yüce said that they aim to popularize bicycles as a means of urban transportation in Sakarya, the European City of Bicycle and Sports. Yüce stated that the bike path network will reach 180 kilometers with the project that will surround Sapanca Lake.

Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem Yüce and members of the metropolitan council pedaled before the December council meeting. Presenting bicycles to the members of the assembly in order to promote and promote the use of bicycles at the ceremony held at the Fire Brigade Department, Mayor Yüce, regardless of the rain, reached the assembly meeting to be held at the Social Development Center by riding bicycles. Speaking at the program, President Ekrem Yüce said, “Sakarya is one of the few cities in the world that has the title of bicycle city, and we represent our country among 13 cities with this title. We recently received our European City of Sports award in Brussels. After the title of bicycle city, we are proud to represent Turkey as the European Sports City with the competitions, organizations held in our city, our city regulations and investments for the promotion of sports. Today, we came together with our esteemed council members for an event worthy of Cycling and European Sports City, Sakarya. Together with our council members, we pedaled in order to increase and popularize the use of bicycles in our city.”

Bicycle paths will surround Sapanca Lake

Speaking about the benefits of bicycle use, Mayor Yüce said, “As Sakarya, we aim to popularize bicycle use as a type of urban transportation due to its environmentally friendly structure, the need for usage area is much less than motor vehicles, and the benefits it provides to health and nature. Of course, we first prepared our city for comfortable and safe cycling. We covered every part of our city with bicycle path networks. Our bicycle path network, consisting of three stages, will extend from the shore of Sapanca Lake to the borders of Kocaeli, starting from the Sunflower Bicycle Valley, passing through regions such as Summer Junction, Millet Bahçesi, Aziz Duran Park, and Vagon Park. Together with our 1st Stage bike path network, which has been completed, we have opened a 160-kilometer bike path within the borders of Sakarya Metropolitan to the service of our citizens.

Chairman Yüce said, “Our 21-kilometer 2nd and 3rd stage bike path is planned to be completed by the end of June 2023. When the project, whose line of approximately 8 kilometers has been completed so far, is completed, our total bicycle path network will reach approximately 180 kilometers. With the completion of these projects, a person who started pedaling from Sunflower Bicycle Valley; Passing through areas such as Summer Junction, Millet Bahçesi, Aziz Duran Park, Wagon Park, Beşköprü, they will reach Sapanca Lake uninterruptedly and take a full tour around the lake. As Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, we name this line that surrounds the lake as "Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality Bicycle Highway".
