The 85 meter long M/Y Victorious, built by AKYACHT in Kocaeli and being the largest mega yacht ever built in Turkey, carried out an important rescue operation.
On 14 December 2022, at 11.32 am, an emergency signal was received from the Fort-de-France Marine Search and Rescue Coordination Center that the catamaran named STAR I had capsized 500 nautical miles off the island of Martinique. An attempt was made to contact the ships near the location where the accident occurred, by radio message. As soon as the mega yacht Victorious, which was sailing towards the Caribbean to welcome charter guests, changed course as soon as she received the distress signal, she set off for the rescue area reported by MRCC Fort-de-France. While further information on the incident was not available, attempts to contact the crew of the catamaran were unsuccessful, with the catamaran's last known position reported 23 hours ago.
On December 15, 2022, when the search operation at another determined location was about to be completed, a flare was seen by M/Y Victorious about one nautical mile away and the movement towards this location was started. Despite the harsh weather conditions, the rescue operation continued in the dark of the night, and the life raft carrying the five slightly injured crew of the catamaran STAR I was found at 05.03 by M/Y Victorious, who reached the relevant location. The survivors were taken aboard and medical attention was given promptly by the M/Y Victorious crew. The rescue operation, which lasted 18 hours, was completed at the first light of the new day, and five European Union citizens were rescued by M/Y Victorious and his crew.
M/Y Victorious then continued on its route towards Saint-Maarten, reaching the port in Philipsburg at 16 on 13.22 December, and disembarked the five survivors from the mega yacht at this port. The captain and crew of M/Y Victorious were honored with a certificate of appreciation by the Presidency of the Fort-de-France Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center for their diligent work, maritime skills and humane attitudes, and for representing the solidarity among seafarers in the best way possible. Produced by AKYACHT in Kocaeli and being the largest mega yacht ever built in Turkey, the 85-meter-long M/Y Victorious is still proudly sailing in different geographies of the world.
