Mersin Metropolitan Municipality organized the 'New Year's Market' in order to make the citizens live with the enthusiasm of the New Year. Many products from local products to books, souvenirs and New Year's decorations were offered for sale in the market, which was established by the Metropolitan in Özgecan Aslan Barış Square, and delicious food and drinks took their places in the stands. Equipped with decorations and lights suitable for the New Year, the citizens, who visited the stands in the market, enjoyed live music while shopping. In the market, which will host the people of Mersin until 31 December, concerts will be given by local artists every evening.
Özdülger: “We will welcome the new year together with enthusiasm”
Speaking about the event, Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Department of Culture and Social Affairs Coordinator and Opera Artist Bengi İspir Özdülger stated that they wanted to welcome the new year with enthusiasm with the people of Mersin and said: We aimed to be together with dear Mersin residents in a wide range from souvenirs to food, and we wanted to create a pleasant ambiance for those who come and visit here. There is live music every day between 19.00 and 21.00. We want to welcome the new year with joy, happiness and enthusiasm. We are planning a festival-like night here on the evening of December 31st. We will have a street party and welcome the new year with enthusiasm.”
“The ambiance is very nice, the project is also great”
Tülay Aydın, who opened a booth in the market, stated that she was very happy to attend the market and said, “We joined at the last minute, but we are very happy to attend here. The stands were very sweet, the project is very beautiful, the area is good, it is a very well thought out project. The attention is very good, being on the beach is also an advantage. Since the environment is very nice, the visitors also like it very much and they take pictures in front of the stand all the time.”
Baris Semiz, one of the booth owners, said that the atmosphere was very nice and said, “We wanted to contribute to the event and experience such an atmosphere. We are generally satisfied. First of all, the atmosphere is very nice. We are intertwined with music, we get good reactions from people and we have the chance to show ourselves.” He called out to the people of Mersin, "Come out."
“Our weather has changed when we come here”
Sıla Bilge Susuz, a university student visiting the market, said that young people need such activities and that the Metropolitan is doing good things for the youth. Susuz said, “We visited the market and liked it very much. It felt like we were in a foreign country when we entered here. When we left the dorm and came here, our weather changed,” she said.
While Ayşe Yıldırım, one of the citizens, expressed her thoughts as “This place is really beautiful and beyond magnificent, it has been wonderful”, Belgin Adim said, “There are very good events in Mersin. Vahap Bey has really done very good things in these 4 years. I congratulate him. I wish you success, may the road always be open," he said.
