Gender Equality Award from SODEV to Metro Istanbul!

Metro Istanbul, one of the IMM affiliates, won two awards in the fields of technology and gender equality. Metro Istanbul, which received the traditional Technology Captains Awards with the Mobile Personnel Attendance Control System (PDKS), which it developed during the pandemic process, was selected first in the "Best Application for Gender Equality" category at the Gender Equalitarian Transformation Awards.

Metro Istanbul, a subsidiary of Turkey's largest urban rail system operator, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), developed the Mobile PDKS application in order to protect the health of its employees by reducing their contact with each other. The project was evaluated in the 5th Technology Captains Awards organized by BThaber newspaper, one of the important channels of technology publishing. At the ceremony where 6 projects competed in 68 categories, Metro Istanbul was deemed worthy of the award in the Operational Competence Project category.

Another award came to Metro Istanbul with the change and transformation movement towards gender equality that it started in 2019. The Gender Equalitarian Transformation Awards, organized by SODEV in cooperation with the Sweden-based Olof Palme International Center, where municipalities across Turkey are rewarded for their efforts to ensure gender equality, found their owners. At the ceremony where awards were given in 13 different categories, Metro Istanbul received the “Best Practice for Gender Equality” award with its female train drivers project.

THE NUMBER OF FEMALE TRAIN DRIVERS INCREASED 22 TIMES

While the number of female train drivers working in Metro Istanbul was 2019 in June 8, this number increased 2022 times and reached 22 as of December 178.

Acting with the principle of equal and fair representation of women at all levels of social life, Metro Istanbul was awarded the European Region Special Award in the category of “Diversity and Inclusion: Gender Equality” by the International Union of Public Transport (UITP) for its efforts in this direction, and Turkey Quality Association (KalDer), on the other hand, was presented as a role model with its gender equality approach and was deemed worthy of the Turkey Excellence Award.
