Increasing Food in Samsun Becomes 'Mama' to Dear Friends

Samsun Metropolitan Municipality turns the leftover food collected throughout the city into food for the feeding of dear friends at the food production facility. For this purpose, 190 thousand kilograms of leftover food was collected throughout the year. With the Food Production Facility, 216 kilograms of food were produced this year.

Evaluating the leftover food in places such as hospitals, restaurants, universities and schools, the Metropolitan Municipality Environmental Protection and Control Department teams process the leftovers they collect at the Food Production Facility in the Fading Stray Animal Care Center. These meals, collected before the process, are checked in food laboratories at certain intervals to see if they carry the necessary nutrients for stray animals.

The food prepared in the facility, where 600 kilograms of food is produced daily, is given to the dogs and cats in the center. Thus, both the leftover meals are evaluated and the food needs of the animals are met. During the year, 190 thousand kilograms of increased food was collected by the teams of the Metropolitan Municipality. With the Food Production Facility, 216 thousand kilograms of food was produced in one year.

WE PREVENT WASTE AND SUPPORT THEM

Stating that they take great care of all stray animals in the city, Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Demir said, “An average of 600 kilograms of food is produced daily in the Food Production Facility. In formulas, protein sources and carbohydrate sources are combined. Many sources of carbohydrates such as bran, bread and pasta are used. The foods that use yoghurt and yoghurt yeast in their fermentation naturally meet our dear friends. As the Metropolitan Municipality, we not only contribute to the zero waste project and prevent waste, but also save economically.
