The Bitlis Stream Viaduct and Connection Roads built on the Bitlis-Siirt-Diyarbakır Road connecting our Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia Regions were put into service with a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with live connection. Transport and Infrastructure Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu, General Manager of Highways Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, deputies, bureaucrats from public institutions and organizations, and contractor company representatives took part in the ceremony held on Thursday, December 22.

“We are solving one of the most difficult parts of transportation between Bitlis and Baykan”

Wishing that the 900-meter-long Bitlis Stream Viaduct and the 2-meter-long connection roads will be beneficial for our city, our region, and our country, President Erdoğan reminded that they had previously completed the 100-kilometer section of the Baykan Road, which provides transportation to Bitlis in the north-south direction, as a divided road. “Thanks to the viaduct we opened today, we are solving one of the most difficult parts of the transportation between Bitlis and Baykan. The route used before on this part of the road did not allow safe and uninterrupted transportation due to landslides. By completing the last 45,5 kilometers of the project next year, we will put this 4,5-kilometer-long project into service in a way that will contribute to the economic development of the region.”

“Bitlis will be one step closer to the level of economic and social development it deserves”

Emphasizing that the road, which is the main route leading to the important border gates of our country such as Gürbulak, Kapıköy, Esendere and Habur, will relieve the entire region together with Bitlis, President Erdoğan said; He said that Bitlis, the ancient settlement of Anatolia, will be one step closer to the economic and social development level it deserves with the fast and comfortable transportation provided by the divided road.

Recalling the highway investments that were put into service in the last three months, President Erdoğan said; Çanakkale Küçükkuyu-Ayvacık Road Assos and Troy Tunnels, Malatya Hekimhan Road, Diyarbakır Southwest Ring Road, TOGG Factory Roads, Batman Hasankeyf Tunnel, Artvin New Yusufeli Roads and Tunnels, Konya Eğiste-Hadimi Viaduct, Ağrı-Dough-Tutak-Patnos Divided Road, He stated that they opened Şanlıurfa Northwest Ring Road, Samsun Kavak Asarcık Road, Midyat City Crossing in Mardin, Nusaybin Road, Kızıltepe Köprülü Junction and Derik City Crossing.

“Bitlis Stream Viaduct is the first bridge in the world to be completed in its field”

Speaking at the opening, Minister Karaismailoğlu stated that the Bitlis Stream Viaduct, which was built entirely with domestic and national engineering solutions and design, is the first bridge in its field to be completed in the world.

Expressing that a thousand kilometers of welding was done in the Bitlis Stream Viaduct, which was built in one piece using 4 tons of steel with a 15 percent slope, Minister Karaismailoğlu underlined that the amount of steel used in the viaduct is twice as much as the amount of steel used in the construction of the Eiffel Tower.

Minister Karaismailoğlu stated that the Bitlis Stream Viaduct, which is an important transition point between the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia Regions; Gürbulak added that the international logistics corridor, which provides access to important border points such as Kapıköy, Esendere and Habur, greatly increased the transportation standard.

A total of 11,5 million TL savings will be achieved annually

Bitlis Stream Viaduct will save a total of 7 million TL annually, 4,5 million TL from time and 11,5 million TL from fuel; exhaust emissions will be reduced by 908 tons per year.
