The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure carries out various projects in order for the disabled to benefit more easily from the air, rail and road transportation network. While performing air navigation services, airport operation and other support services at airports, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure General Directorate of Civil Aviation works to create an "accessible service network" in order to reach every individual, as well as providing access to every point.

To date, 35 airports in Turkey have been awarded the “Accessibility Certificate”. Various projects are being implemented to obtain this document for other airports as well.

In this context, information desks, passport, ticket sales and check-in counters and toilets for the disabled were created in accordance with the standards of disabled passengers at these airports. In addition, ramps and steps in standards that can be used by the disabled were installed, and tangible floor coverings were made.

While the disabled parking lot was created at the required standards, it was ensured that disabled passengers using the airports could benefit from this service free of charge within the scope of the DHMI fee schedule.

Braille embossed maps showing physical locations were placed at the airport entrances. Within the framework of the physical condition of the terminals, elevators in sizes that can be used by wheelchair users, which provide access to other floors, give voice warning in English and Turkish and have Braille embossed buttons, were created.

Elevated platforms have been installed at airports that do not have elevators and escalators, with suitable physical spaces.

While the handicapped telephones allocated in accordance with the standards were installed inside and outside the terminal, the level differences in transportation to the food and beverage areas within the terminal were eliminated. The entrance-exit gates at the airport terminals have been arranged in such a way that disabled passengers can pass.

While handrails were created for passengers who have difficulty standing, sufficient number of seat groups were planned for disabled passengers to rest.

883 thousand 560 PEOPLE WITH DISABLED PASSENGERS TRAVEL ON YHT AND MAINLINE TRAINS

While investments in railway transportation continued by TCDD, a total of 275 wheelchair spaces were created in high-speed trains (YHT) and other mainline trains. 43 mobile ramps were built and started to be used for main line and regional trains. 20 additional ramps were purchased and distributed for YHTs. The toilets of 535 stations and stations were renovated to serve disabled passengers.

The National Train Project, which continues to be supplied, and the new vehicles to be manufactured were designed in accordance with the accessibility of disabled passengers. A tactile guidance system with seat numbers and wagon numbers was created for the visually impaired. In order to provide easy access to the outer doors and toilets in each train set for wheelchair passengers, arrangements such as suitable seating, wheelchair storage places and appropriate boarding and landing doors were made. The slope between the floor covering between the wagons and the wagon floors has been arranged so that it does not pose a problem for the disabled.

Accessible Call Center offers video calls to hearing-impaired citizens, who have a computer with a camera and a smart phone, via the address “ebilet.tcddtasimacilik.gov.tr”. In order to facilitate the travel of passengers with reduced mobility in main line and YHT stations with passenger density, 15 YHT workplaces (Ankara, Eryaman YHT Station, Eskişehir, Konya Selçuklu, Karaman, Pendik, Söğütlüçeşme, Halkalı, Izmit, Polatlı, Bozüyük, Bilecik, Arifiye, Gebze) "Orange Table" service is provided to passengers who want help with 53 personnel. As of October this year, the number of disabled passengers traveling on YHT and mainline trains reached 883 thousand 560 people. 34 thousand 405 passengers benefited from the Orange Table service.

“OBSISTENT TRANSPORTATION” APPLICATIONS ON HIGHWAYS, PEDESTRIAN CROSSES AND PEDESTRIAN CROSSES

On state and provincial roads under the responsibility of the General Directorate of Highways, pedestrian ramps or pedestrian overpass types with elevators designed for the use of disabled people are applied, while additional elevators are built within the existing pedestrian overpasses, thus contributing to the accessibility practice. At various points in the road networks, the medians of the level pedestrian crossings and pedestrian paths are arranged in accordance with the use of the disabled, while the new and existing sidewalks and level pedestrian crossings are suitable for the use of disabled individuals, tangible surfaces, middle refuge arrangements, ramps and buttoned signaling applications are implemented. Since pedestrians need different areas for mobility, it is taken into consideration when designing that wheelchairs need a larger area to maneuver. The surface of the sidewalks is non-slip, the pavements are adjacent and without gaps. While the spacing between the parallel bars in the drainage grids is preferred in a way that does not pose a danger to wheelchair users, users of white canes and crutches, and pedestrians with baby carriages, necessary precautions are taken to ensure that there are no manholes/grating sets at pedestrian crossings and that ramps are not interrupted by gutters.
