6 Million Vehicles Passed Through the Eurasia Tunnel in 97 Years

The earth layer of millions of years was pierced, high pressure was struggled 106,4 meters below the ground… There was only one goal, to give a breath of fresh air to the chronic Istanbul traffic. 6 million vehicles passed through the Eurasia Tunnel, which has been serving between two continents for 97 years.

Roads provide blood flow in the city, just like veins. In the mega city where millions of people live, inevitable problems arise with the crowd.

As a solution to this problem, the first road tunnel project connecting Asia and Europe under the sea was implemented.

Breaking new ground in tunnel construction with its location, technical advantages and versatile features, the Eurasia Tunnel, which draws the attention of the world, connects the continents with a two-storey road tunnel passing under the seabed.

97 million vehicles passed through the tunnel

With the work of 700 engineers and more than 12 thousand people, the Eurasia Tunnel was completed 8 months ahead of schedule and opened on 20 December 2016.

In December, the average number of vehicles per day was 63 thousand. The number of vehicles passing through the Eurasia Tunnel in 6 years was 97 million. The tunnel was also opened to motorcycle users on 1 May. In about 8 months, 232 thousand 452 motorcycles passed.

The Eurasia Tunnel, which serves on the Kazlıçeşme-Göztepe line, where vehicle traffic is heavy in Istanbul, covers a total route of 14,6 kilometers. The 5,4-kilometer section of the project consists of a two-storey tunnel built with a special technology under the seabed.
Tunnel significantly reduces travel time

The approach roads between Sarayburnu-Kazlıçeşme and Harem-Göztepe were widened, and vehicle underpasses and pedestrian overpasses were built.

The tunnel relieves vehicle traffic in a holistic structure. While the travel time is considerably reduced on the route where the traffic is very heavy in Istanbul, a safe and comfortable journey becomes possible.

The Eurasia Tunnel serves as a fast and comfortable transportation alternative in the Bosphorus crossing, with its high technology, advanced engineering, holistic project and its route connecting the continents.

Saving both time and fuel

Drivers save time, fuel and accident costs by shortening journey times by passing through the tunnel. At the same time, thanks to the reduction in emissions, it contributes to the economy in terms of the environment.

Eurasia Tunnel, the shortest route of the two continents

In the fully equipped control center located on the Asian continent, all measures to be implemented in case of an emergency were determined by experts in advance. A large staff of civil servants and a 200-person expert Eurasia Tunnel team are ready to assist you throughout the journey.

The tunnel is monitored 7/24

The Eurasia Tunnel, which will serve all day long in all weather conditions, is monitored 7/24 with closed circuit cameras, detection and warning systems. Communication in the tunnel is provided uninterruptedly by mobile telephones, emergency telephones and announcement systems.

Advanced jet fans in the ventilation system provide continuous fresh air circulation. These fans, which can operate in two directions, increase their capacity in case of emergency and continuously supply fresh air into the tunnel.

Uninterrupted driving comfort in adverse weather conditions

Special gradual LED lighting technology was applied to enable users to easily adapt to the tunnel and daylight at the entrances and exits.

Eurasia Tunnel, the shortest route of the two continents

With the Eurasia Tunnel, uninterrupted journeys are made even in adverse weather conditions such as fog and icing. Tünel has been an exemplary project at international standards with its sensitive approach to the environment, society and the city since the first day.

With the 2 Air Quality Monitoring Stations brought to Istanbul within the scope of the project, the air quality in the region is continuously monitored and emission values are ensured to comply with the standards.
