Izmir Metropolitan Municipality aims to raise awareness about environmental pollution. Karşıyaka Collaborated with Examination College. The young people, who said, “Do not pollute the nature, do not darken my future”, made an eagle statue with the waste they collected from the Natural Life Park.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality's livable and clean environment works, Karşıyaka Exam College students also supported. Students collected recyclable wastes around İzmir Wildlife Park. Saying "Do not pollute the nature, do not darken my future", the students made an eagle sculpture of one and a half meters from materials such as beverage cans, plastic bottles, ice cream sticks and CDs. After about four months of work, the statue, which was obtained from waste, was opened to visitors with a ceremony.

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Climate Change and Zero Waste Department Head Kemal Kılıç, Sasalı Wildlife Park Branch Manager Şahin Afşin, İzmir Exam Colleges Founding Representative İlker Sümer and students attended the opening ceremony of the Recycling Eagle Statue.

“Waste turned into a work of art in your hands”

Speaking at the ceremony, Kemal Kılıç emphasized the importance of work and said, “Today, we are looking at your handiwork and your work with great admiration. Before bringing this work to life, I look at the sculpture that you have transformed with your elegant hands in your naive thoughts, and I see a dream. Art is a magic that can turn waste into a work of inspiration. Work for our vacuum cleaner, bread for the collector, art in your hands.”

“Young people want a sustainable future”

İlker Sümer, Founding Representative of İzmir Exam Colleges, said that young people do not want the planet to turn into a garbage heap due to unconscious consumption. Expressing that they do not want recyclable waste to go to waste, Sümer said, “Young people want a sustainable future. Research shows that 50% of the environmental pollution in the world has occurred in recent years. We humans are creating more and more garbage every day. For the future of our world, which is our home, we are obliged to be conscious consumers and to separate our recyclable wastes and give them a second chance through recycling.”
