Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Council Members visited the construction sites of the 'Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mezitli-3 January Light Rail System Metro Line, and received information from the Metropolitan Municipality bureaucrats about the works and the process.
In the 3rd Joining Meeting of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Council in November, the request of the Council Members to visit the Mersin Metro construction site was fulfilled. CHP members Abdurrahman Yıldız, Ahmet Gökulu, Erden Doğruöz and Selahattin Arslan also attended the technical inspection visit, which was attended by only Zafer Şahin Özturan and Mehmet Topkara, members of the People's Alliance. İrde: “Work continues at 3 Ocak Kent Meydani station”
Sharing technical information about the project and emphasizing that the work continues at the 3 January Kent Meydani station, Deputy Secretary General Tarık İrde said, “618 of approximately 593 piles have been completed. After that, TBM will be used until the Train Station, Özgür Children's Park, Tulumba, Muğdat, Pozcu, Barboros, and then Marina, University, Mezitli City Square, Viranşehir will be with the cut-and-cover method.
Liman: “This is not a job to be done with the own resources of the municipality”
When the Council Members were asked that it is difficult to implement such a project with the municipality's own resources and what measures were taken regarding the financial aspect of the business, Mayor Advisor Ertan Liman said, “This is of course not a job to be done with the own resources of the municipality. Our equity only pays 15% plus VAT, which is in the tender conditions of this work. Other than that, it can definitely be settled with foreign or domestic credit. In any case, the works we have done so far have been done with the municipality's own resources of 200 million TL.”
Sharing information about the process, Liman emphasized that the works could proceed even faster if the Treasury approves, and said, “The signature of the Treasury has been kept on hold for more than a year in our project, which was included in the President's Investment Program. Our President also went to meet with the President on this issue. He explained the project. He also gave all the files related to our project. However, there has been no development since then," he said.
The Assembly Members then went to the construction site located within the borders of Yenişehir Metro and behind the Divan Hotel, and visited the administrative sections there and got information.
Mersin Metro and MBB's Rail System Projects
Mersin Metro, with a total length of 13.4 km, will start from the Old Bus Station and will extend to the old building of the Mezitli Municipality. The metro, whose foundation was laid on January 3, will consist of 11 stations and will include art centers and parking lots. On the route of Mersin Metro, the transportation time is expected to be 23 minutes.
The 2nd Phase tram line, which will be integrated into the metro, will be 11.5 kilometers and Mersin University-34. On the street line, the 3rd phase will be located on Mersinli Ahmet Street, Çağdaşkent, Siteler, 10.4 Ocak, City Hospital and MEŞOT line as a 3 kilometer tram.
Since the Ministry of Treasury and Finance did not approve the authorization to use financing obtained from the Municipal Assembly, even after more than a year, the financing could not be used yet.
