With the studies carried out with the "Mediterranean Research 1 Ship" belonging to the Directorate of Mediterranean Fisheries Research, Production and Training Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the population of sea creatures in the blue homeland and in international waters is determined.

The 8-meter-long and 32-meter-wide ship, which was brought into the inventory of the institute about 8 years ago, continues its activities in a wide area.

Studies are carried out on the fish species in the blue country and in international waters, their development and migration wave throughout the year with the 1400 gross ton ship with a 320 horsepower engine and a four-meter underwater draft (the distance between the bottom of the ship and the water level).

The Institute Directorate, which first carried out studies on the determination of the shrimp population in the Mediterranean with the ship, then carried out a project for the determination of fish stocks in the area from İskenderun to Fethiye Bay.

The ministry, which also works on the mucilage problem in the Marmara Sea and the anchovy stocks in the Black Sea with the Mediterranean Research 1 Ship, conducted research on whether fishing can be done in Lebanon and the TRNC territorial waters twice in the international arena.

The Ministry also obtains scientific data on which fish are found in which areas and in what density, when the hunting ban should be, and the population of new species that come to the region.

The authorities, who can take water samples from different heights with the ship and analyze 8 different parameters, carry out studies such as drawing underwater bathymetry (Depth) maps, trawling up to 800 meters, taking fish samples of desired sizes from different depths, and distinguishing 300 species.

Mediterranean Fisheries Research, Production and Training Institute, which is the first in Europe in aquaculture on seafood, is the supplier of Europe, especially sea bream, sea bass and trout.

Examining Fish Before Landing With Onboard Laboratories

The Akdeniz Research Ship, which is the most equipped in Turkey and one of the few in Europe, can continue its work with 1 personnel for 18 month without ever going ashore. In addition, the fish taken out on the ship, which has a cold storage room, can be stocked. The science team continues to work on the ship while the ship sails, without the need for many fish to be taken to laboratories on land for scientific study.

The ministry, which also prepared a project on the migration wave of tuna in the Mediterranean with the ship in question, monitors where the fish spawn and where they migrate. In order to conclude these studies, the follow-up of 20 tuna fish with a satellite tracking device is still continuing.
