International Izmir Short Film Festival Begins

Organized for the 23rd time this year with the support of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, the International Izmir Short Film Festival begins today.

The International Izmir Short Film Festival, supported by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Ministry of Culture, General Directorate of Cinema, Izmir Chamber of Commerce, French Cultural Center and Migros, starts today. Within the scope of the festival, which will bring more than 300 films to the audience free of charge with special selections, workshops and interviews will also be held. Films that will compete for the Golden Cat Awards in the categories of animation, documentary, experimental and fiction in national and international branches will be evaluated under the chairmanship of director Ömer Faruk Sorak. The Golden Cat Awards, on the other hand, will find their owners with the award ceremony to be held on Saturday, November 19th.

Special movie selections

Film screenings will be held free of charge on the main hall of the French Cultural Center, Tarık Akan Youth Center, Mavibahçe AVM, Karaca Cinema and the festival's online viewing platform. In addition, with the contributions of the German Cultural Center, ShortExport short films and a selection of Romanian Cultural Center short films will meet with moviegoers. Examples of Turkish and world cinema are included in the panorama section of the screening program.

Izmir Film Works

Chairman of the Jury Ömer Faruk Sorak, members of the jury Ümmü Burhan, Saadet Işıl Aksoy, Zeynep Santıroğlu Sutherland will come together with the fans of İzmir through conversation events. In addition, there will be sustainable filmmaking workshops and a project presentation competition in three categories with İzmir Film Works, which will be held at IzQ Entrepreneurship Center on November 17-19. With the training that will enable students to get acquainted with the super8 format with film cameras, student groups consisting of universities providing cinema education in İzmir will receive a very entertaining filmmaking training at the Historical Havagazı Youth Campus.

“Cinema venue exhibition”

The diorama exhibition themed "Cinema and Space", prepared in cooperation with the Izmir-based diorama artist Şimal Gürkan and the Izmir Short Film Festival, will be on display on 14-20 November. The exhibition will bring together the iconic film stills with the art of diorama, bringing the familiar scenes out of the cinema screen and bringing them together with the visitors.

Short films will be released

6 short films selected with the partnership of İzmir Short Film Festival with Başka Cinema will have the chance to be screened in movie theaters. In this way, it is aimed to increase the interest in short films and to meet the audience not only in festivals but also in the vision, as in the examples abroad.
