The General Directorate of Forestry (OGM), affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, created the "Green Homeland Screen" in order to instantly monitor the current data on forest fires.

While responding to fires, the General Directorate of Forestry (OGM) teams are also working to inform citizens.

In this context, the “Green Vatan Forest Fire-Homeland Defense” tab was created on the OGM website (ogm.gov.tr).

The page contains information that citizens can follow instantly regarding forest fires. Currently, information about ongoing or controlled fires can be accessed.

On the page with the monthly number of forest fires that occurred, comparisons can be made with the previous year. In addition, with these figures, burning forest areas can be accessed annually.

In the aviation data on the page, information on how many hours, how many sorties were made and water was thrown can be accessed. Information on how many vehicles are used to respond to forest fires from the air is also displayed on the screen.

On the other hand, there are also photos showing the before and after of the burned areas.

“IN THE LAST 20 YEARS, WE HAVE INCREASED OUR FOREST AREA 2,3 MILLION HEC”

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Prof. Dr. Vahit Kirişci made an evaluation about the works on forest areas.

Stressing that forests are not only the legacy of the past, but also the trust of future generations, Kirişci said, “For this reason, we have determined this year's theme of 11 November National Afforestation Day as 'Breath to the Century of Turkey'. Our country is one of the rare countries that has steadily increased its forest assets in recent years. In the last 20 years, we have increased our forest area by 2,3 million hectares. We rank first in Europe and sixth in the world among the countries that increase forest wealth in the world. We are in the first place in Europe and fourth in the world in the ranking of the countries with the most afforestation. Just as we define the waters covering the maritime jurisdictions as the 'blue homeland', we see the country's forest assets as the 'green homeland' and equate it with the defense of the homeland.” said.

Kirişci stated that they offer the “Green Homeland Screen” as an application where forest fires, extinguishing works and other developments can be followed instantly, and said, “We know the sensitivity of our nation in the protection of our 'green homeland' and we carry out the work of our Ministry in this area in a transparent manner.” he said.
