Organized for the third time this year and honoring individuals who have made great contributions to society, the TRT World Citizen Awards ceremony was held on November 25. Ali Banat, the Founder of Muslims Around The World and the Australian businessman who died of cancer, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's ceremony. Mahmoud Ismail, CEO of MATW-Project and friend of Banat, received the award.

The award ceremony of the TRT World Citizen Awards, organized for the third time this year by TRT's international English-language broadcaster TRT World, honoring individuals who have made great contributions to society, was held in Istanbul on November 25. This year, TRT World awarded Ali Banat, an Arab-Australian businessman who was the Founder of Muslims Around The World Project (MATW-Project) and died of cancer, with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Mahmoud Ismail, CEO of MATW-Project, a next-generation non-governmental organization focused on building a legacy with global impact, and friend of Banat, received the award of Ali Banat, who donated all his wealth to charity after being diagnosed with cancer.

Expressing his thoughts on the award, Mahmoud Ismail said, “We lost Ali Banat at a young age, but his legacy lives on with what he did for the world and charity. We would like to thank TRT World, which appreciates the contributions of MATW-Project to the world in many countries, especially in Africa, and gave the Lifetime Achievement Award to our founder Ali Banat.” said.

He donated all his wealth to charity

Businessman Ali Banat, who owns a company operating in the fields of security and electricity, donated all his wealth to charities after being diagnosed with cancer in 2015. Ali Banat, who founded the Muslims Around the World Project in this context, passed away in 2018. MATW-Project, which is a non-profit and works to contribute to positive change worldwide, has touched the lives of 3 million people to date. Emphasizing that the organization works on a 100 percent donation basis, Mahmoud Ismail said, “Every amount donated reaches those in need. As MATW-Project, we provide humanitarian aid to countries such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, Palestine, Yemen, Syria and Afghanistan. We have built more than 950 water wells to address the water shortage in Africa. We have supported more than a thousand orphaned children. We provide shelter, access to water, training and guidance services in difficult living conditions.” he said.

Many people from all over the world from fields such as politics, academia, art, entertainment, humanitarian aid and business attended the award ceremony organized by TRT World. Explaining that they want to maximize the impact of donations with a sustainable model, Mahmoud Ismail, CEO of MATW-Project and friend of Ali Banat, concluded his evaluations at the ceremony with the following words: “As MATW-Project, we are inspired by our values ​​of reliability, sustainability, impact, belief and efficiency. We strive to create fair and equitable living conditions worthy of dignity.
