Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Prof. Dr. Vahit Kirişci, regarding the death of a dog in the Stray Animal Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, said, “The final decision will be made by the judiciary regarding the inhumane people who murdered a dog. I would like to share with the public that we are following the issue.” said.
In his speech at the 50th Great Congress of the Turkish Veterinary Medical Association (TVHB), Kirişci said that TVHB has fulfilled an important mission in its field.
Expressing that as the Ministry, they work with local administrators to ensure the safety of both stray animals and people, Kirişci continued as follows:
“Our provincial directorates take action by accepting these images as notifications in cases of violence against animals and follow the necessary legal process. It is never possible for us to accept violence against our dear friends. I would like to state that I am following the sad event in Konya, which was reflected on social media yesterday. Our provincial directorate filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office, and 2 suspects were arrested. Judiciary will make the final decision regarding the inhumane people who murdered a dog. I would like to share with the public that we are following the issue.”
Stressing that all institutions and non-governmental organizations have a common responsibility for stray animals, Kirişci pointed out the importance of both ensuring the safety of animals and ensuring that people walk around the streets in peace.
Stating that the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks will organize a workshop on the increase in the stray animal population, Kirişci stated that a road map will be created in this area.
IT IS PLANNED TO INCREASING STERILIZATION SUPPORT TO 100 MILLION LIRA
Minister Kirişci stated that they have transferred funds to local governments for the construction of animal shelters, and that they have provided 2009 million liras of financial support to 59 local governments in 88 provinces since 72.
Pointing out that 2017 million 510 thousand liras of financial support has been given for 654 thousand 36 animals since 500 regarding the sterilization of stray animals, Kirişci stated that a total of 2007 million liras of administrative fines have been imposed for animal rights violations since 35.
Kirişci said that they are planning to increase the amount of financial support from 2022 million lira in 40 to 2023 million lira in 100, within the scope of the "Neutralization of Orphaned Animals Mobilization Program".
580 OWNED PEOPLE HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED
Reminding that owned animals are also registered, Kirişci gave the following information: “According to the Animal Protection Law, cat and dog owners have to register their animals with a digital identification system until 31 December at the latest. However, from the beginning of the year, cats and dogs up to the age of 6 months can be registered without penalty. Since January 1, 2021, a total of 580 thousand 295 owned pets have been identified and recorded across the country.
Pointing out that veterinary services are one of the important fields of work of the Ministry, Kirişci said that veterinarians have an important role in the success achieved in the development of animal husbandry in the last 20 years.
Stating that Turkey has a great animal potential with 18 million cattle, 57 million sheep and goats, 400 million poultry, and 8 million bee hives, Kirişci said: 20 increased. PREGNANT HELF SUPPORT UPPER LIMIT INCREASED 100 PERCENT
Kirişci stated that around 2,5 million artificial inseminations are carried out annually by veterinarians and said:
“Starting from 2023, we will implement a new support that will enable us to increase this number even more. We will start to make an additional premium payment of 200 TL for calves born from artificial insemination. I would also like to announce the new figures regarding our 2022 heifer support here. Within the scope of heifer purchase support, the upper limit of support for pregnant heifers was 20 thousand liras, it was increased to 40 thousand liras, and the upper limit of support for 8-15 months old empty female cattle was 12 thousand liras, and we have increased this to 25 thousand liras. We will pay 50 percent of the price per heifer or buffalo as a grant if the heifers are born in Turkey and are procured from heifer centers, and 40 percent if they are procured from other supply centers. Heifer purchase support applications will be received by the provincial or district directorates between December 1, 2022 and January 27, 2023.
Referring to the contributions of veterinarians in the fight against the Kovid-19 epidemic, Kirişci congratulated the veterinarians who have achieved success in this field, especially the TURKOVAC vaccine.
