Who Determines the Minimum Wage?

The minimum wage, which is protected by the laws determined in Turkey, is determined by the determination commission. There are about 15 members in this commission in order to determine the minimum wage.

Commission members;

  • Two members under the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services
    • TURKSTAT representative
    • Ministry of Development representative
    • Representative of the Undersecretariat of Treasury
    • Five members elected by the highest authorized worker organization that employs the most workers within its body.
    • Five members elected by the employer's organization, which has the most employers within its structure.

These members are; It convenes under the chairmanship of the Minister of Family, Labor and Social Services and holds its first meeting. Immediately after, separate meetings are held with the workers and employers and decisions are taken. The last meeting is held by the Ministry and the results are shared with the public.

The commission, which is chaired by one of the representatives determined by the Ministry, takes place with the participation of at least 10 representatives. The decision with a majority of votes is accepted, and when the votes are equal, the party with the chairman is counted as the majority.
