TÜREK, Turkey's largest wind energy event, which was held in İzmir for the first time this year by the Turkish Wind Energy Association (TÜREB) in cooperation with İzmir Development Agency, started with the motto “Turkey's Wind, İzmir's Wind”. Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank stated that Turkey's exports of wind turbines and equipment, which amounted to 2021 billion euros in 1,5, will reach 2 billion euros this year, and said, "Turkey will become a much larger player in both offshore wind turbines and land turbines. the future." said.

In his speech at the opening ceremony of the Turkish Wind Energy Congress (TÜREK 2022), Minister Varank said that the size of global investments in energy transformation in 2021 alone is over 750 billion dollars. Stating that the largest share in these investments was realized in the field of renewable energy with an investment of more than 350 billion dollars, Varank said, “Turkey is the 8th largest solar panel producer in the world with its 4 gigawatt solar panel production capacity. Hopefully, we will reach the third place next year with the new investments. Similarly, with 1,8 gigawatts of new capacity last year, we became the 4th country in Europe to deploy the most wind energy power.” he said.

45 COUNTRY EXPORT

Stating that approximately 40 thousand people are employed in the production of wind energy equipment, which interacts directly or indirectly with many sectors, Varank said, “With this great synergy, we have become the 5th largest wind energy equipment manufacturer in Europe. Our companies export their products in international standards to 45 countries. Hopefully, we will increase our wind turbine and equipment exports, which reached 2021 billion euros in 1,5, to 2022 billion euros in 2. We will have carried our capabilities in these areas to a very different point.” he said.

RENEWABLE ENERGY

Varank explained that they offer comprehensive incentives as a ministry in order to minimize the initial investment burden of investors and to ensure that they can get a return on their investments in a short time. Pointing out that they have issued more than 10 thousand incentive certificates for renewable energy investments in the last 9 years, Varank said that thanks to these documents, an investment of 170 billion lira has been made and the employment of more than 25 thousand citizens has been paved.

R&D AND INNOVATION

Emphasizing that they attach special importance to the execution of R&D and innovation activities for the production of energy technologies, Varank said, “With TÜBİTAK, we have provided 1,2 billion liras of support to more than a thousand R&D projects of the private sector and academia in the field of renewable energy. At the TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center, our researchers carry out R&D projects focused on wind, solar and hydroelectric energy. We continue to support the R&D and design centers of our companies operating in the energy sector and the companies operating in this field in technoparks. Thanks to these supports and the dynamism of the private sector, it would not be an exaggeration to say that our domestic production capabilities have come a long way.” used his statements.

IT PROVIDES SIGNIFICANT OPPORTUNITIES

Varank mentioned that it is important for the wind industry to complete the infrastructure works for offshore wind turbines, which are produced in much larger sizes than onshore wind turbines. Pointing out that Turkey is among the 4 countries with the highest offshore wind potential in the latest report of the Global Wind Energy Council, Varank said, “Host to 20 percent of Turkey's onshore wind energy potential, İzmir also offers important opportunities for offshore investments. ” he said.

WIDE ECOSYSTEM IN EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURING

Noting that there is a wide ecosystem in terms of equipment production in and around İzmir, Varank said, “Almost 70% of our exports are made from this city and approximately 8 thousand of our citizens are employed in these areas in this city. I also congratulate our Izmir Development Agency. Our agency played an active role in attracting large-scale investments to İzmir. Now we are working on what we can do in offshore wind technologies.” said.

BRAND IN THE WORLD

“Before the 3-4 hour meeting we held last night, we talked to our Governor and deputies about the plans for the next period in this area.” Varank said, “I put forward 3 alternatives. If we go even with one of these alternatives, we can invest in marine equipment in a way that will make İzmir a global brand. I hope we can present great and new opportunities to the sector. Turkey will become a much larger player in both offshore wind turbines and onshore turbines.” he said.

Ziya Altunyaldız, Chairman of the Parliamentary Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Information and Technology Commission, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Abdullah Tancan, Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) President Mustafa Yılmaz and TÜREB President İbrahim Erden made speeches at the ceremony.

After the speeches, TÜREB President İbrahim Erden presented a model of a wind turbine to Minister Varank.

Minister Varank presented a plaque to Adnan Polat, Chairman of the Board of Polat Holding, who was awarded the "Honorary Award of Those Who Power the Wind" for his contributions to the wind energy sector.
