The number of students in vocational training centers, which offer qualified vocational education to all secondary school graduates in 33 fields and 182 branches, has exceeded 1 million. The target of 2022 million apprentices and journeymen, set by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the end of 1, was exceeded in 11 months. The Ministry of National Education announced that vocational education centers will reach 1 million students with a movie themed “the strong voice of vocational education”.
As of November 15, 2022, there are 1 million 33 thousand students registered in vocational education centers. 30% of the students are women.
Vocational training opportunities in many branches
The area with the highest number of students in vocational training centers is beauty and hair care services with approximately 130 thousand people. Other fields with more than 100 thousand students were motor vehicle technology, food and beverage services and fashion design technologies, respectively.
33-year apprenticeship and 182-year journeyman training are provided in vocational training centers that offer qualified education in 3 fields and 1 branches, where anyone who wants to have a profession without age limit can apply. Apprentices are paid 1.658, journeymen are paid 2 liras.
The Ministry of National Education released a film with the theme of “the strong voice of vocational education” to announce to the public that the vocational education centers have reached the target of 1 million students. In the film, “We will continue to strengthen vocational education in all areas for the development and production of our country.” it was said.
“We will go far beyond the 1 million target at the end of the year”
Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer stated that a significant change was made in the Vocational Education Law No. 25 on 2021 December 3308 and made the following statement: “We are happy to reach the target of 1 million registered students, which they pointed out in the first place, with the implementation of the legal regulation we made under the strong leadership of our President. . With this change, we have produced a very attractive mechanism for both employers and students. Before the legal regulation, the number of apprentices and journeymen in Turkey was 159 thousand. Currently, we have 1 million 33 thousand students registered in vocational education centers. There is no longer any problem in finding apprentices, journeymen and masters, especially for small and medium-sized businesses, in every part of Turkey. At the end of the year, we will go far beyond this target.”
Stating that the strengthening of vocational training centers will also make very important contributions to the reduction of youth unemployment rates, Özer said, “This is the result of very important improvements especially in the ratio of young people 'neither in education or employment', which are actively used in performance measurements of OECD countries, and in the parameters that measure the pass-through performance of the education and labor market. We observe that it will be provided on occasion.” said.
