The construction works of Balıkesir Northwest Ring Road, which will increase the transportation standard by creating an alternative divided road connection to the Balıkesir city pass, started with the groundbreaking ceremony held on Monday, October 31st. At the ceremony attended by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu and General Manager of Highways Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, deputies, bureaucrats and contractor company representatives were present.

“We introduced the comfort of the highway to Balıkesir with the Istanbul-Izmir Highway”

Karaismailoğlu stated that they introduced the Istanbul-İzmir Highway, one of the most important build-operate-transfer projects of our country, and Balıkesir with highway comfort; He stated that they connected Balıkesir to Bursa, İzmir and Manisa with divided roads.

Underlining that they have designed the Balıkesir Northwest Ring Road, the foundation of which has been laid, in line with the city's development and transportation demands, our Minister said that they have created an alternative divided road connection to the Balıkesir city pass, which provides access to Edremit and Ayvalık districts and Kaz Mountains from Istanbul, Bursa and Ankara.

Karaismailoğlu stated that they will significantly increase the transportation standard in the region and provide comfortable access to rapidly increasing industrial facilities and ports with the road that will pass through the north of the city instead of the existing road in the city.

“Travel time will decrease from 16 minutes to 5 minutes”

Stating that there will be 10 intersections on the road that will be built in the standard of a 3 km long, 6-lane bituminous hot mix paved divided highway, Minister said, "With the opening of the road, the route will be shortened by 13 km, which was covered by 3 km before, and the travel time will be reduced from 16 minutes to 5 minutes." said.

Referring to the benefits of the project, Karaismailoğlu said, “We will save 84 million TL annually, 20 million TL from time and 104 million TL from fuel. We will also contribute to environmental protection by reducing carbon emissions by 4 thousand 100 tons, and we will prevent air pollution.” used his statements.

“We will provide uninterrupted and comfortable transportation”

Speaking at the ceremony, General Manager Uraloğlu said that they opened the Southern Ring Road and then the Istanbul-Izmir Motorway within the scope of the Urgent Action Plan, as well as the existing road leading to Izmir within the scope of the north-south axes.

Uraloğlu stated that the Northwest Ring Road was brought to the agenda in order to meet the needs of Balıkesir in terms of urbanism and contribute to the development of the city, and that they included the road in the investment program after the agreement reached with the Metropolitan Municipality, and continued his words as follows: “Today, we will finish our work quickly by laying the groundwork for this project. We will provide uninterrupted and comfortable transportation. We will also have taken the current load in the city. “

“The road standard of the city will rise even higher”

Stating that the Balıkesir Northwest Ring Road will significantly increase the transportation standard in the region, Uraloğlu stated that the project will provide comfortable access to rapidly increasing industrial facilities and ports and increase the tourism potential. He also underlined that by including the north of the city in the ring road network located in the west and south of Balıkesir, the road standard will be higher.

Referring to the main work items of the project, Uraloğlu added that within the scope of the project, 1,5 million m³ of earthwork, 100 thousand m³ of concrete, 10 thousand tons of iron, 450 thousand tons of plantmix foundation and sub-base, 315 thousand tons of hot mix with bitumen will be used.
