The Practice that Reassures Women in Eskişehir Sets an Example for Turkey

The 'Positive Discrimination against Women in Transportation' practice, which was initiated by Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality in 2016 as a first in Turkey, has been continuing successfully for 6 years.

In this project, which started as a pilot application on 2016 lines in 3 and is valid on all lines in 2017, female passengers can get off the buses wherever they want after 20.00:XNUMX without waiting for a stop.

Stating that the work was realized for the first time in Eskişehir, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yılmaz Büyükerşen stated that he wanted to remind the practice once again this year, as every 25 November, and said, “There is a great social benefit, especially murder, violence and harassment against women. Against these transforming events, the relevant institutions of the state should take radical decisions and put them into practice immediately. We, as local governments, have to work harder to develop practices and projects that will provide positive discrimination to women. As the Metropolitan Municipality, we provide psychological, legal and health consultancy services to women free of charge in our Women's Counseling and Solidarity Center. No place is safe where women don't feel safe. We should never forget that," he said.
