A delegation of Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) deputies visited the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS) site. The members of the Parliamentary Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Information and Technology Commission, who toured the field, received detailed information about the first nuclear power plant project of the Republic of Turkey.

Under the chairmanship of Commission President Ziya Altunyaldiz, the delegation consisting of deputies was joined by Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alpaslan Bayraktar, MENR Nuclear Energy and International Projects General Manager Afşin Burak Bostancı, MENR Nuclear Infrastructure Development Department Head Tuğrul Çağrı Cinkara, Nuclear Regulatory Board (NDK) Board Member and Second President Dr. İsmail Hakkı Arıkan, NDK Vice President Oğuz Can, Mersin Governor Ali Hamza Pehlivan, Gülnar District Governor Musa Ayyıldız, Silifke District Governor Abdullah Aslaner, Gülnar Mayor Alpaslan Ünüvar.

The official delegation, who received information on occupational safety and security, visited the highest point of the field where the NGS power units under construction can be seen and the 1st Unit, which is about to be completed. During the visit, AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş. NGS Construction Deputy Director Dmitry Romanets, Public Relations and International Cooperation Managing Director Aleksey Frolov, Production and Construction Organization Director Denis Sezemin accompanied the guests. Dmitry Romanets explained in detail to the members of the delegation the point reached in the construction of power units, the technologies used and the materials used in the construction.

The head of the parliamentary delegation, Ziya Altunyaldız, evaluated the results of the visit as follows: “We are in the field of construction of the world's largest nuclear power plant, where four units have been built. In fact, we can say that there is a very big step forward as technology. Because with their ability to acquire the technology of the nuclear power plant, we can express that Turkish engineers have gained a talent here. And in the next stages, we are taking firm steps forward in the position of a country that has come to the stage of being a partner and sharing talent both in additional nuclear power plants to be built in Turkey and nuclear power plants that can be built abroad. I would like to express that, in the face of the challenges posed by climate change, many countries, especially the European Union, have come to the stage of evaluating nuclear energy as a green and sustainable energy. When the nuclear power plant is finished, it will meet 10 percent of our country's total electricity needs. It will also make a serious downward contribution to the emission volume and as a result, it will ensure the energy security that will ensure the electricity security of our country, and when we think about it, it will also provide a smaller amount of imports, especially for the part that produces electricity from natural gas.”

Construction and installation works at Akkuyu NPP site are carried out at all main and auxiliary facilities in the field, including the four power units, coastal hydrotechnical structures, power distribution system, administrative buildings, training center, NPP physical protection facilities.
