Soyer: “We have to do whatever is necessary”

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, who made the opening speech of the summit Tunç Soyer, said that since the day he took office, they have been based on a sustainable city policy. Underlining that for this, they attach importance to the efforts to access food and water, public transportation, fight against poverty and create a resilient city against disasters, Soyer said, “For us, sustainability means loyalty to the covenant and the future. We are working to transfer the 8500-year-old heritage to our bright youth and to establish a life in Izmir in harmony with change. We have to do whatever it takes to ensure that this cycle continues in harmony.”

Reminding that they organized a Culture Summit in Izmir in September 2021 and that they introduced cyclical culture as a much more inclusive concept than sustainability, the President Tunç Soyer, said that they want to make İzmir a cyclical cultural geography that is harmonious with its nature, nourished by the harmony of togetherness, rising on the foundations of harmony with the past, and focused on living in harmony with change. President Soyer said, “I believe with all my heart that this meeting organized by the Aegean Young Businessmen Association, focusing on the issues of 'sustainability' and 'future', is a gesture of kindness. With this summit, we are taking a step forward to ensure that our young people do not lose their hopes in this country and take their hopes under their wing. We have to take the responsibility to build the Turkey of the future. I am sure that the works we have done and will do will be milestones that will determine the future of our city, country and world. I would like to thank everyone who put their minds and conscience on this path.”

Özgener: “We have made great progress in our work without deviating from the main road”

Mahmut Özgener, Chairman of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce, pointed out that they focus on producing sustainable projects with chambers, stock exchanges, unions, local governments, government and non-governmental organizations. Özgener said, “In all the projects we carry out in cooperation, while improving the trade volumes of the members and growing the economy of our city, we remain loyal to the principles of green economy, increase efficiency by adapting the latest technological developments to our processes, and take care to expand the use of renewable energy.”

Yelkenbiçer: “Everything depends on what we want to do with our life”

The host of the summit EGİAD President Alp Avni Yelkenbiçer said, “Now we have to reach more masses faster, but we must also be careful not to disturb the balance while speeding. And this is possible with sustainability.” Stating that organizations that do not offer a purpose to their members and stakeholders cannot survive, Yelkenbiçer said, “Just as a factory needs machines to be able to produce, our organizations need our hearts and hearts to be sustainable. Sustainability starts at this point because everything depends on what we want to do with our lives.”
