Water Depth is Increasing for Cruise Ships at Ünye Port

Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. The water depth is increased in order for high-tonnage ships such as cruise ships to benefit from the Ünye Port, which was enlarged with the initiatives and efforts of Mehmet Hilmi Güler, the number of berths was increased and Ro-Ro voyages between Ordu and Russia started for the first time in its history.

The works carried out at Ünye Port to gain national and international qualifications continue at full speed. Unye Port, which is unsuitable for the entrance of large, high-tonnage ships such as cruise ships in terms of the length and depth of the pier, is being brought into compliance with the standards with the enlargement and capacity increase works.

PRESIDENT GULER EXAMINED THE STUDIES ON SITE

In this context, Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Mehmet Hilmi Güler made inspections at the Ünye Port, where the works are continuing, and received information from the authorities. Making statements about the works carried out, President Güler stated that Ünye Port will become an active port with each passing day.

“WE WILL GROW BOTH TRADE AND ECONOMICALLY DEVELOPED”

Stating that with the completion of the works at Ünye Port, both trade will develop in Ordu and the city will develop economically, President Güler said:

“Our work at Ünye Port continues at full speed. What we want to do here is to clean the port, reduce its depth to 7,5 meters of draft and ensure that large ships dock here. From now on, not only Samsun, Giresun and Tokat are our neighbors, but the ports from which all European ships come from Russia are our neighbors. This will be a very active port. It will be a port where Ro-Ro and cruise ships come from. All our preparations are for our city to become a great center of attraction. When we do this, both our trade will develop and our tradesmen will earn money. This, in turn, will reduce unemployment and enable us to develop economically. In this context, we are working on deepening day and night. We continue our work intensively.”

IMPROVING EVERY DAY

While filling the inner harbor of 80 thousand square meters in Ünye Port continues, works are being carried out to construct closed warehouses and silos, to construct a new pier with a length of 220 m and a depth of -10 m, to construct the main breakwater and quays, which is called the outer port, and to construct new fillings.

TRADE VOLUME WILL INCREASE

Together with the works carried out in Ünye Port, the Central and Eastern Black Sea provinces being at the middle point in terms of population will decrease both foreign and domestic trade logistics costs and increase the trade volume of Ordu. Maritime trade will continue without interruption with the Ünye Port, which will gain momentum by combining with strategic routes such as the Black Sea-Mediterranean and Ünye-Akkuş-Niksar Road. Thus, Ünye Port will be brought on equal terms like other existing ports and will significantly shape both the provincial economy and the regional economy. On the other hand, the port, which will directly affect factors such as logistics and industry, will also contribute to employment.
