7th Anniversary of Akkuyu NPP Fire Department Celebrated

Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS) site, AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş. Fire Brigade hosted an event to celebrate its 7th anniversary.

The contribution of firefighters in extinguishing forest fires that occurred in Mersin's Akkuyu NPP construction area last year attracted attention. The fire department was certified in accordance with the standards of the Republic of Turkey in 2022. It is the first time that an organization within an international company has been awarded such a certificate.

At the ceremony held, certificates and awards were presented to the firefighters of AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş. Anastasia Zoteeva, General Manager of AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş., drawing attention to the importance of the work and services of firefighters in her speech at the ceremony, said: “Even though seven years is not a long time, we came together today because the number of your awards has increased tremendously. We would not be willing to let these achievements go unnoticed. We know that your high achievements will increase exponentially just like your professionalism. We are grateful for your service and happy that our international, close-knit team can count on you, you are always by our side!”

Firefighters were awarded at the World Firefighters Games, an international sporting event held in Lisbon in May this year, which includes firefighting and many traditional sports. AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş firefighters won 38 medals. AKKUYU NÜKLEER team took part in competitions such as boxing, hammer throwing, powerlifting, freestyle wrestling and arm wrestling. Based on their success in the competitions, the organizers invited the AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş team to participate in the World Firefighters Games in 2023.

Mersin Regional Director of Forestry, Mustafa Yalçın, said in his statement: “First of all, I congratulate the seventh anniversary of the establishment of the fire department of Akkuyu NPP. Today's event was very useful! It is very important to organize such events and to provide information about the work of different units, including operational services. Last year Akkuyu NPP firefighters helped a lot in extinguishing forest fires. I want to thank them once again!
