The 39th Anniversary of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was Celebrated in Izmir

The 39th anniversary of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was celebrated with a reception in İzmir. The reception, hosted by the TRNC Consulate General in Izmir, was attended by the Governor of Izmir, Yavuz Selim Köşger, and the Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. Tunç Soyer also participated.

On the occasion of the 39th anniversary of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), a reception was hosted by the TRNC Izmir Consulate General. İzmir Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger, Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality at the reception at Konak Officers Club. Tunç Soyer, Aegean Army and Garrison Commander Lieutenant General Kemal Yeni, İzmir Provincial Police Chief Mehmet Şahne, TRNC İzmir Consul General Ayşen Volkan İnanıroğlu and many guests attended.

Speaking in the program, İzmir Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger stated that November 15, 1983 is an important date and said, “This date is an important turning point in the political life of the Turkish Cypriot people and the day an epic struggle was announced to the world with the state phenomenon. Our country has become the only state that recognizes and supports the Turkish Republic of Cyprus, which has been subjected to embargoes and isolations since its establishment," he said. Köşger also stated that for decades, the Turkish Cypriots took a dignified stance and continued a just struggle against those who ignored their demands to live freely in their homeland.

“We look to the future with hope”

Ayşen Volkan İnanıroğlu, Consul General of the TRNC in Izmir, said that since the day it was founded, the Cypriot people have continued to develop in every field despite all the obstacles and restrictions. Inanıroğlu said, “Today, over one hundred thousand students receive higher education, have 21 universities, visit one million tourists a year, and the economy of our country is an education and tourism paradise. We will make our republic live forever in unity and solidarity with our homeland, the Republic of Turkey, which has always been by the side of the Turkish Cypriot people and does not spare their material and moral support.”

The program ended with the cutting of the cake prepared for the 39th anniversary.
