10-Month Performance of Telecommunication Sector in China Reached 185 Billion Ddollars

In the first ten months of the year, the revenues of the Chinese telecommunications industry continued to increase. According to the data of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the combined transaction revenues of the sector increased by 8 percent in the January-October period of this year compared to the same period of the previous year, exceeding 1,32 trillion yuan (approximately 185 billion dollars).

Rising business branches such as big data, cloud computing, internet data centers and the internet of things recorded rapid revenue growth in the said period. Operating revenues of China's three telecom companies - China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom - increased by 33,1 percent from a year ago to 256,3 billion yuan.

In particular, cloud computing and big data recorded extraordinary increases of 127,8 percent and 59,3 percent, respectively, in the first ten months of the year, while the growth of data centers remained at 12,7 percent. Meanwhile, China's 5G network continued to develop rapidly. The number of 5G base stations reached 2,25 million as of the end of October. This number represents an increase of 2021 thousand compared to the end of 825.
