EGO General Directorate, which brings together alternative transportation projects with the citizens of the Capital in order to minimize the traffic problem, implemented the second "Park and Continue" application, which was initiated to reduce vehicle traffic and direct vehicle users to public transportation vehicles, at Macunköy Metro Station.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality continues to implement environmentally friendly transportation projects, one by one, that will ease the traffic of the Capital.
The second of the "Park and Continue" application, which was initiated at the National Library Station in 2021 by the General Directorate of EGO, which implemented alternative transportation projects to encourage the use of public transportation vehicles throughout the city, was also put into use at Macunköy Metro Station.
AN ENVIRONMENTAL AND SAFE PROJECT THAT PROMOTES MASS TRANSPORT
EGO General Manager Nihat Alkaş, who participated in the opening of the Macunköy Park Et Continue Car Park, stated that they have attached importance to providing an environmentally friendly, healthy, economical, comfortable and sustainable public transportation service since the day they took office. Alkaş said, “Our citizens will use public transportation if they can comfortably access the metro from their home by using their private vehicle and be sure that their vehicle will stay in the parking lot safely, without paying any fee and without any damage to their vehicles until the evening. In other words, this 'Park and Carry on' project is also an environmentally friendly project that is in line with our main purpose, encouraging public transportation.” Alkaş continued his statements as follows:
“Park and Continue is an application that we provide free of charge to our citizens using public transportation by arranging the parking lots at or near the rail system stations. I would like to emphasize once again that the 'Park and Continue' project is a project that reduces vehicle traffic to the city center and encourages users to use public transportation. We made the first application at the National Library Station. We put our 430-vehicle parking garage into the use of our citizens on February 12, 2021. The second is the Macunköy Station parking lot, which we will open today. The parking lot has been completed by the Department of Science Affairs of our Municipality, its capacity has been increased from 450 vehicles to 100 vehicles, and it has been delivered to our General Directorate. The received parking lot has been transformed into a 'Park and Continue' parking lot by our General Directorate, and it is finally ready for opening as of today.”
METRO USERS WILL USE THE PARKING FOR FREE
In the application, which reduces vehicle entry to the city center and prevents the formation of traffic from the source, citizens will be able to park their vehicles in the parking lots within walking distance of the metro stations and take their vehicles out of the parking lot during the day without paying any parking fee if they prefer to use the two-way round-trip public transportation vehicles. A paid tariff system will be applied to citizens who leave their vehicles in the parking lot and do not use public transportation.
Vehicles remaining in the parking lot after the day of entry will pay a fee for the day and hour of their stay.
The ANKARAKART fare tariff, which will be applied to passengers who will only use the Park and Continue system as a parking lot, is as follows:
Drivers leave their cars in the 'Park and Continue' parking lots and reach their destination as soon as possible by public transport, and they do not waste time in traffic and do not look for parking in the places they go. It is aimed to increase the number of parking lots to 26 in the project, where citizens will also significantly save on fuel costs.
The 26 stations planned to have a parking lot in the project are “Akköprü, Yenimahalle, Demetevler, Hospital, Macunköy, Ostim, West Centre, Mesa, Botanik, Istanbul Road, Eryaman 1-2, Eryaman 5, Devlet Mahallesi, Wonderland, Fatih, GOP, Törekent, Koru, Çayyolu, Ümitköy, Beytepe, Ministry of Agriculture/Council of State, Bilkent, METU, Söğütözü, National Library.
