Ministry Continues Psychosocial Support to Miners and Their Families

The Ministry of Family and Social Services continues the psychosocial support it started from the first moment of the incident in order to heal the wounds of the miners and their families in the Turkish Hard Coal Institution (TTK) Amasra Institution, where 41 workers lost their lives.

The psychosocial support teams of the Ministry were dispatched to the scene after the mine explosion on 14 October to bind up the wounds and respond immediately to the needs of the citizens.

Teams provided psychological first aid to families around the mine. Psychosocial support personnel continued to serve in the waiting area created for families by AFAD Provincial Directorate. In addition, personnel were assigned to hospitals for families whose relatives died or were injured.

The teams gave psychosocial support to the families who were waiting for news from their relatives in front of the hospital to heal their wounds. The officers also participated in the funeral ceremonies of the workers who lost their lives and applied psychological first aid to the families here.

The Ministry started to provide cash support of 50 thousand liras to the families of the miners who lost their lives in the explosion, and 25 thousand liras to the injured citizens for their acute needs. The Ministry continues to serve families from the first moment of the accident with 165 psychosocial support specialists and 3 mobile social service vehicles.

Counseling services for children on the grieving process

Condolence visits were made to the families of 41 mine workers, and psychosocial support teams provided counseling regarding the grieving process for children. In addition, home visits were made to the injured miners and their families, and psychological first aid activities were continued.

In line with the information they received from the families, the teams conveyed the basic and urgent needs of the households to the relevant solution partners and institutions.

In the interviews with the families, the reactions that can be experienced after the grief and loss in adults and children were conveyed, and it was informed that individual counseling would be provided in case of psychological support requests.

Within the framework of the visits, the education information of the children of the miners who lost their lives was obtained and the Provincial Directorate of National Education was contacted. Efforts were also made to prevent any disruptions in the education life of the children. In addition, the relatives of the miners who lost their lives or were injured and whose health conditions required monitoring were reported to the Provincial Health Directorate and health follow-up was ensured.

Support for the injured who are being treated in Istanbul

The Ministry has appointed 6 personnel, 7 of whom are professional staff, from Istanbul Başakşehir Social Service Centers to provide psychosocial support to the families of 8 workers who were dug out of the rubble and taken under treatment in İstanbul Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital.

The staff in charge identified general information and needs about families and produced solutions. The Ministry teams, who closely follow the treatment processes of the injured mine workers in Istanbul, continue their meetings with the relatives of the patients.
