İzmir 100th Anniversary Open Water Swimming Races Staged Great Competition

The 100th Anniversary Open Water Swimming Races organized by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality in Çeşmealtı witnessed great contention. Among those who successfully completed the challenging course was the autistic swimmer Tuna Tunca of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality.

The 100th Anniversary Open Water Swimming Races organized by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality were held in Çeşmealtı. Entering the water from Aren Beach, the athletes turned around Arap Island and swam 4.2 kilometers to the starting point again. A total of 108 athletes participated in the races. Athletes who entered the sea at the same time threw their strokes for the medal during the competition, where the upper limit was set for 2,5 hours. The start of the race was given by Hakan Orhunbilge, Head of Youth and Sports Services Department of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, and Hüseyin Egeli, Member of the Board of Directors of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Club.

In the organization, awards were given in 13 categories, including age categories. Bengisu Erdoğan in the women's ranking was 1.16.58, and in the men's İzmir Metropolitan Municipality athlete Emre Erdoğan, with a time of 59.26, left his rivals behind and took the first step of the podium.

In women, İpek Öztosun came in second with 1.20.43 and Kübra Kuş was third with 1.23.18. In men, Sertaç Drought took the second place with a time of 1.08.00, and Okan Ulşa took the third place with a time of 1.12.29.

Tuna Tunca's determination set an example

Tuna Tunca, autistic swimmer of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Club, also successfully completed the 4.2 kilometer course. Ziya Ölker, who participated in the competition as a special athlete, finished the race and received applause from the audience.
