Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyeris going to Brussels tomorrow for the 20th European Week of Regions and Cities, the biggest event of the year that brings together European cities. President Soyer will speak at the session titled “Farm to Table Food Supply for Resilient Regions” at the 11th Anniversary High Level Session of the “European Week of Regions and Cities” on October 20. President Soyer, who will speak on “Region-Specific Food Education for Children and Implementation of Urban-Rural Food Strategies” at the session jointly organized by the European Committee of Regions and ICLEI Sustainable Cities Union, will hold high-level contacts in Brussels and evaluate the possibilities of cooperation with the local administrators of Europe. The opening speech of the high-level session, which will be attended by President Soyer, will be delivered by Serafino Nardi, Head of the Natural Resources Commission of the European Committee of the Regions. In the session, President Soyer and European Parliamentary, Farm to Table Strategy and EU School Food Program Rapporteur Sarah Wiener, European Committee of the Regions Member, President of the Italian South Tyrol Region, Arno Kompatscher will also speak.

“Saving the Environment: Local Communities Take Action”

The European Week of Regions and Cities is organized annually in Brussels by the European Commission and the European Committee of the Regions as part of Cross-Border and Regional Cooperation. The event serves as a platform where mutual experiences are exchanged on issues such as the implementation of local and urban development projects, finding solutions to global problems such as the climate crisis, COVID-19, and making use of EU cooperation opportunities. With more than 2021 partners and 590 participants in 18, the event is held this year under the main title of "Saving the Environment: Local Communities Take Action". The sub-themes of the event were determined as “Green Transformation”, “Regional Integrity”, “Digital Transformation” and “Youth Empowerment”.
