Çukurova Airport Permanent Border Gate Announced

Çukurova Airport, whose construction has not yet been completed by the President's decision, has become a permanent air border gate open to international entrances and exits.

The Presidential Decision on the subject was published in the Official Gazette with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Accordingly, Çukurova Airport, which is envisaged to be opened in February 2023, has been determined as a permanent air border gate open to international entrances and exits, in accordance with the Passport Law.

Adana Metropolitan Municipality from CHP made a press statement at the airport entrance against the closure of Adana Airport due to Çukurova Regional Airport, which was built as a project of transferring rent to the capital with passenger guarantee.

Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar stated that there are not many airports for Mersin and Adana, which have a total population of 6 million, and called for "Our airport should not be closed".

Karalar had said the following: “As you can see, Adana is whole in this regard. Adana lost TRT, Highways, State Railways. Every institution leaving here means both income and employment loss. Today, the population of Adana and Mersin is 6 million, including refugees. We are not against the construction of an international airport in Mersin. Rize has a population of 350 thousand, Tabzon has a population of 850 thousand. There are two airports there. No matter where in the country, whatever is needed, there are not many airports in two cities with a population of 6 million. Do not close our airport. This airport is very important for the people of Adana.”
