The “Colors of Basmane” exhibition, created from photographs taken by photographer Aydan Özlü in the Basmane district, was opened. The exhibition, which also includes frames from the lives of refugees, can be visited at Çetin Emeç Art Gallery until 30 October.

Photographer Aydan Özlü's “Colors of Basmane” photography exhibition opened at İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Çetin Emeç Art Gallery. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Ertuğrul Tugay and many guests attended the opening of the exhibition, which also includes photographs of immigrants living in the Basmane district of İzmir.

“We are all different values”

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Aydan Özlü said that people fleeing war and oppression were looking for new hope in Basmane and said, “All of them were in Basmane, the center of Izmir, perhaps the center of the world, according to some. First of all, we are human. We may be in very difficult circumstances. But we can get out of this situation by our own efforts. I never forgot this when I was taking pictures in Basmane. Religion, language, race and profession do not matter at all. We are all different values," he said.

“A work with awareness”

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu also stated that each photograph has a different story and said, “Basmane is a fact of our life and sheds light on this in this exhibition. This important work teaches us that we need to look at it differently. It also appeals. Art rejects this injustice and drama. I hope most of the people of Izmir visit this exhibition and listen to its story.”

The photography exhibition can be visited until October 30.
