Ankara Metropolitan Municipality implemented the "Memory Ankara" project in order to create the urban identity. Stating that the project was developed with the aim of determining, documenting and sharing the social and spatial values ​​of the Capital and making it known to the citizens of the city, ABB President Mansur Yavaş said, “With a vision far beyond just throwing asphalt and hanging a good luck poster next to it; We aimed to look at Ankara from a cultural point of view," he said.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality continues to add new projects to the projects it has implemented in order to create the urban identity.

In addition to the protocol signed between Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage and Başkent University, with the contributions of academics from many universities, determining, documenting and sharing the social and structural/spatial values ​​of Ankara, the Capital of the Republic, and thus ensuring that they are recognized and known by the citizens of the city. For this purpose, the “Memory Ankara” project was prepared.

YAVAŞ: “OUR DUTY IS TO TRANSFER THE VALUES OF THE CITY TO EVERY INDIVIDUAL OF THE SOCIETY”

The project developed in order to make Ankara's city history and values ​​more known; It was introduced with a program held at the ABB Conference Hall.

“From the day we took office, with a vision far beyond just putting asphalt in our city and hanging a good luck poster next to it; Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, who started his speech with the words "We aimed to look at Ankara from a cultural point of view," said, "In this context, as Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, we came together with Başkent University and decided to determine, register, share and promote the social and spatial values ​​of Ankara, the Capital of our Republic. In this way, we prepared the Memory Ankara project in order to make them known and known by the people of Ankara.”

“As it is known, within the scope of cultural continuity and diversity values, our modern age provides us with many conveniences and brings with it many negativities. Our duty in this process is to transfer the cultural values ​​of the city to each individual of the society. Within the scope of the Memory Ankara project, the information and findings obtained through 3 simultaneous studies, which were first carried out around the Ulus Historical City Center Urban Site, will be linked to each other and shared on the website memory.ankara.bel.tr after the introductory meeting.”

“WE WILL ENRICH WITH THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF ANKARA”

Yavaş continued his explanations by saying, “Plates with Turkish and English imprint information were prepared and hung on the structural values ​​that we think have an important place in the formation of Ankara's urban identity from a folkloristic point of view.”

“For a year, our project team compiled the structures, monuments and areas that have been in the cultural memory of Ankara residents, and also researched and documented the people and institutions that left important traces in Ankara's business, science, art and cultural life. In addition, the stories of the urban images that play an important role in the comprehensive identity of the people of Ankara and the structures that make up the belief system have been compiled and brought to the archive. Finally, in the sense of urban folklore, a project section, titled the stories of the city, consisting mainly of memoirs and compiled stories, will be enriched over time with the contributions of the people of Ankara. In time, the project will continue to develop with new compilations and participations.”

PROJECT AREA BECOME A NATIONAL HISTORICAL CITY CENTER

The information and findings obtained through 1 simultaneous studies lasting 3 year and carried out in and around the Ulus Historical City Center Urban Site and its surroundings will be linked to each other and shared on the internet address “memlek.ankara.bel.tr” after the introductory meeting.

In addition, within the scope of the project, imprint plates containing Turkish and English information of the values ​​determined to have an important place in the formation of Ankara's urban identity were prepared and hung on the buildings.

The “Memory Ankara” project team carried out the following activities in Ulus Historical City Center for 1 year:

-Within the scope of Study 1; The structures, monuments and areas that have taken a place in the memories of the people of Ankara or have led to the formation of social values ​​were investigated.

- Within the scope of Study 2; Ankara's people who have left important traces in business, science, art and cultural life and the structures where families live, study, work, produce, brands and corresponding structures that provide economic development, culture-art institutions that provide social development, places corresponding to daily life researched and documented.

- Within the scope of Study 3; The stories of the structures that play an important role in Ankara's multi-layered identity, the structures that make up the belief system, the people or families who add value to Ankara, the culture and art institutions, the brands, the daily life and the corresponding structures/spaces were revealed, and in this way, the richness of meaning of the city was revealed. and presented in a pluralistic way.

THE STORIES OF THE CITY COMPLETED

The Memory Ankara team also carried out an oral history study under the title of "City Stories". The experiences and memories of the citizens related to daily life and extraordinary events in Ankara were compiled. In this study; It was aimed to reveal the identity of the city, enriched by its spatial and social values, with the memories compiled from the interviews.

At the end of the program, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş took photos with the guests in front of the Memory Ankara plaque erected in the Metropolitan Municipality Building.
