Due to the start of the tangerine season, the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters' Association held a "Mandarin Harvest Ceremony" in Gümüldür, the world famous satsuma tangerine capital of İzmir.

Emphasizing that the tangerine is the export champion with an amount of 2021 million dollars in fruit and vegetable exports from Turkey in 453, Aegean Exporters' Associations Coordinator Vice President and Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters' Association President Hayrettin Aircraft noted that 140 million dollars of tangerine exports were obtained from satsuma tangerine exports.

100 out of every 5 tangerines produced in the world are in Turkey

Noting that the world-famous Izmir's satsuma tangerine yield increased by 100 percent to 175 thousand tons, Uçar said, “I wish the tangerine season, which is the most exported product among fresh fruit and vegetable products, to be beneficial for our country, our producers and our exporters. Our country ranks third in tangerine production after China and Spain. 100 out of 5 tangerines produced in the world are produced in our country. We are again in the third place in exports after China and South Africa. As Turkey, we exported 2021 thousand tons and 72 million dollars to 930 countries in 453. We exported 58 percent of the tangerines we produced. These figures reveal how important the tangerine is for our country. In 2022, our goal in tangerine exports is to bring 1 million dollars in foreign currency to our country in exchange for 650 million tons.

Stating that in the Aegean Region Citrus Yield study, they determined the Aegean Region's tangerine harvest to be 175 thousand tons, 250 thousand tons in İzmir, and continued as follows:

Uncertainty and recession in Russia worry

Aegean Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Exporters' Association President Hayrettin Uçar emphasized that the uncertainty in Russia, Turkey's leading market in fresh fruit and vegetable exports, and the recession in Europe are the issues that make them nervous as they enter the new season.

2 projects are coming for tangerine

Stating that as the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters' Association, they have decided to implement two projects on tangerines this season, Chairman Uçar said, “The first is the project of determining fruit losses, which we carried out together with Ege University. Unfortunately, in our country, losses between 10 and 30 percent are experienced in many fruits. The products that we describe as second quality are already gaining value in the industry. It is used in canned food, fruit juice and cosmetics industries. Our aim with this project is to identify the losses experienced especially during the harvesting and storage processes and to minimize these losses through training activities. We started field studies with a very experienced team from Ege University. In this project, we included pomegranate and tomato as well as tangerine. When the first year of the project is concluded, we will share the project outputs with you, our esteemed press representatives. Our second project is the Dissemination of Good Agricultural Practices Project, which we carry out with the İzmir Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry. Within the framework of this project, we have identified 100 producers in our Menderes, Selçuk and Seferihisar districts, and we will control and document these producers from production to export.”

95% of tangerines are suitable for export

Reminding that the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters' Association has been continuing the project called "We Know the Pesticides We Use" in order to demonstrate the suitability of 2 products for export for 10 years, Uçar added that 95 percent of the analyzes they have made for Mandarin from various regions are suitable for export.
