Based on this fact, we saw international integration, especially in the field of transportation, as one of the most important dynamos of economic development. During the last 20 years under the leadership of our President, we have made all transportation strategies taking into account global trends. We connect the world to Turkey. With an investment of more than 1 trillion 631 billion liras, our priorities have been to improve our transportation infrastructures, turn Turkey into a global logistics superpower, expand transportation networks and complete the missing connections in international transportation routes.

“The Zigana Tunnel, which brings us together today, is one of the most important projects we have implemented within the scope of the north-south axis. It is being built on the route connecting Trabzon to Bayburt, Aşkale and Erzurum via Gümüşhane. Zigana Tunnel project starts at the 44th kilometer of Trabzon – Aşkale Road in Maçka/Başarköy location and connects to Köstere-Gümüşhane Road at the 67th kilometer with a bridge crossing. The existing 12-meter-wide state road will become a two-lane divided highway. With the opening of the project, the elevation, which was 2010 meters at the summit of Zigana and was lowered to 1 meters in the 1825st tunnel, is lowered by 600 meters to 1212 meters. The left tube of our tunnel is 14 meters long, and the right tube is 448 meters long, consisting of double tubes. Its total length will reach 14 kilometers with the connection roads. We had already completed the excavation-support and final concrete pavement work. Within the scope of ongoing studies; we have left behind important stages, electro-mechanical manufacturing continues. We have also completed the construction of a 477-meter-long post-tensioning bridge at the tunnel exit junction. When our project is put into service; The existing road will be shortened by 15,1 kilometers. This will reduce the travel time by about 126 minutes. This will provide great savings advantages. A total of 8 million TL will be saved annually, 30 million TL from time and 40 million TL from fuel. Carbon emissions will also be 99 thousand tons less. There are only a few days left for the opening of the Zigana Tunnel. We aim to complete all our productions in April 139 and to put our tunnel into service. Again, when the Zigana Tunnel becomes operational; We will provide road users with safe and comfortable travel opportunities by making history, especially during the winter months.”

Each of the 3 stations within the scope of the project has a total of 1 ventilation shaft structures, 1 for clean air and 6 for polluted air.
