Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu pointed out that the Zigana Tunnel, where 100 percent domestic and national resources are used, is approaching the end, and said, “We aim to open our Tunnel in April 2023 by not completing all our productions. When our project is put into service; The existing road will be shortened by 8 kilometers. This will reduce the travel time by about 30 minutes. A total of 139 million TL will be saved annually.”

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu made a statement after his examinations in the Zigana Tunnel. Karaismailoğlu stated that the new Zigana Tunnel, which will be the world's 14,5rd and Europe's longest double-tube highway tunnel with a length of 3 kilometers, is a world-class highway project to be hosted by Trabzon and Gümüşhane, and by completing the excavation support works of the tunnel, He reminded that they came together at the light-seeing ceremony on January 13. Karaismailoğlu, who said, "We experienced our joy and pride together again," said that the works to open the tunnel for service have been carried on 7/24 successfully since that day, and that the end is finally near.

Karaismailoğlu said, “Our country, located at the intersection of three continents, is in a very important position. We work meticulously in order to do justice to this position and to ensure that our nation can benefit from what we have at the highest level. Turkey's geographical location requires a multidimensional approach to our transportation and communication strategy. We make our plans on a global scale by going beyond the regional borders. Based on this fact, we saw international integration, especially in the field of transportation, as one of the most important dynamos of economic development. During the last 20 years under the leadership of our President, we have made all transportation strategies taking into account global trends. We connect the world to Turkey. With an investment of more than 1 trillion 631 billion liras, our priorities have been to improve our transportation infrastructures, turn Turkey into a global logistics superpower, expand transportation networks and complete the missing connections in international transportation routes.

At this point, Karaismailoğlu stated that the Zigana Tunnel, which was built on the route connecting Trabzon, which is the most important trade center of the Eastern Black Sea Region, to Bayburt, Aşkale and Erzurum via Gümüşhane, should be looked at from this perspective. We evaluate it with the awareness that it is vital for reaching Zigana Tunnel will also create new employment, business areas and opportunities in the region and will make significant contributions to the regional economy.

Noting that the Black Sea Coastal Road connects the settlements in the coastal area with a high standard transportation network, Karaismailoğlu stated that they also designed many roads and tunnels in the region within the scope of the improvement works on the north-south axes. Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu emphasized that they have completed many of them such as Ovit Tunnel, Lifekurtaran Tunnel, Salmankaş Tunnel, Salarha Tunnel, Hurmalık-1 and Hurmalık-2 Tunnels, and continued their speech as follows:

“The Zigana Tunnel, which brings us together today, is one of the most important projects we have implemented within the scope of the north-south axis. It is being built on the route connecting Trabzon to Bayburt, Aşkale and Erzurum via Gümüşhane. Zigana Tunnel project starts at the 44th kilometer of Trabzon – Aşkale Road in Maçka/Başarköy location and connects to Köstere-Gümüşhane Road at the 67th kilometer with a bridge crossing. The existing 12-meter-wide state road will become a two-lane divided highway. With the opening of the project, the elevation, which was 2010 meters at the summit of Zigana and was lowered to 1 meters in the 1825st tunnel, is lowered by 600 meters to 1212 meters. The left tube of our tunnel is 14 meters long, and the right tube is 448 meters long, consisting of double tubes. Its total length will reach 14 kilometers with the connection roads. We had already completed the excavation-support and final concrete pavement work. Within the scope of ongoing studies; we have left behind important stages, electro-mechanical manufacturing continues. We have also completed the construction of a 477-meter-long post-tensioning bridge at the tunnel exit junction. When our project is put into service; The existing road will be shortened by 15,1 kilometers. This will reduce the travel time by about 126 minutes. This will provide great savings advantages. A total of 8 million TL will be saved annually, 30 million TL from time and 40 million TL from fuel. Carbon emissions will also be 99 thousand tons less. There are only a few days left for the opening of the Zigana Tunnel. We aim to complete all our productions in April 139 and to put our tunnel into service. Again, when the Zigana Tunnel becomes operational; We will provide road users with safe and comfortable travel opportunities by making history, especially during the winter months.”

In addition, Karaismailoğlu pointed out that the problems such as sharp bends and falling stones from steep slopes on the existing Trabzon-Gümüşhane line will be eliminated, and that the smooth flow of traffic to the settlements on the Black Sea coast, the port, tourism and industrial centers will now be better. Noting that this will make great contributions to faster and more reliable international trade, Karaismailoğlu said, “The Zigana Tunnel will bring a new breath to the economy of our region. 100% domestic and national resources were used in the construction, design and control of the Zigana Tunnel and its access roads. The project was completely built by Turkish engineers and workers. In addition, 'vertical shaft structures' built for the first time in Turkey in highway tunnels were created in the Zigana Tunnel. Each of the 3 stations within the scope of the project has a total of 1 ventilation shaft structures, 1 for clean air and 6 for polluted air. The Zigana Tunnel, which will be another triumph of domestic and national works with its technical and engineering dimensions, and will be placed among one of the top structures of Europe and the world, is like a seal that will be put on the future of Trabzon and Gümüşhane: with its opening, it will create an important momentum in the development and development of the region, to those who use it, to the people of the region. It will take its place among the proud projects of Turkey with the things it will bring.”

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoğlu, who said, “Already, if you have a love for your nation in your heart, if there is a desire to produce service, the roads that are called impassable, the mountains that are called impassable can be overcome,” and said that the works carried out in Trabzon are not limited to the Zigana Tunnel. Karaismailoğlu said, “Kanuni Boulevard, Maçka-Trabzon, Of-Çaykara, Akçaabat-Söğütlü-Yıldızlı Road, Araklı-Dağbaşı-Road, Akçaabat-Düzköy Road, Düzköy-Tonya Road with a total project amount of 26 billion 905 million TL, our 24 highway project continues. we do,” he said.
