IBB Puts Turkey's Largest Advanced Biological Treatment Plant into Service
İBB Opened Turkey's Largest Advanced Biological Treatment Plant

İBB opened Turkey's largest advanced biological treatment plant, which will treat 650 thousand cubic meters of wastewater per day. CHP Deputy Chairmen Seyit Torun and Ali Öztunç and IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu facility opened by It will serve a population of approximately 2 million 600 thousand people residing in Tuzla, Pendik, Kartal and Maltepe districts. With the new advanced biological treatment stage, all of the pollutants in the wastewater will be removed and thus the Marmara Sea will be protected in terms of environment, public health and marine life.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) opened Turkey's largest advanced biological treatment plant within the scope of the “150 Projects in 150 Days” marathon. “3rd stage of İSKİ Tuzla Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant; CHP Deputy Chairmen Seyit Torun and Ali Öztunç, IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu and İSKİ General Manager Şafak Başa.

“THEY ARE NOT YOU; Their Troubles, Their Power, Their Seats”

Saying, “We care about the environment,” İmamoğlu said in his speech, “Our Tuzla Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant has been put into service. We received it with 24 percent completion. And we are done with this process. And İSKİ was also persecuted. İSKİ was not given a raise for months, 1,5 years. Now they are having a process of making a 50 percent discount in Ankara. These guys are not well-intentioned. Their problem is not you. Their troubles, their power, their seats. We are worried. We deal with the problems of every citizen. For him, despite everything, despite many obstacles… Who wants a raise? Who wants to increase the price? But inflation is no longer calculated in this country. Is it 150 percent? We can't even calculate. Our money is gone. My dear, they stole our money. We will experience and see how much damage we have suffered in the coming years and that we have become poorer. They will make a lot of propaganda during the deception process, we will not be fooled by it.”

“WE HAVE DONE 8 BIG ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS”

Noting that they have carried out 8 more major projects related to the environment, İmamoğlu said, “We are building the Baltalimanı Biological Wastewater Treatment plant. We built and finished Hasdal Solid Waste Transfer Station. We have finished our Şile Drinking Water Treatment Plant. Meanwhile, we are finishing Baltalimanı. We will open it too. We have finished our Silivri Seymen Waste Water Treatment Plant. We are starting our Yenikapı Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant. We are starting our Beykoz Riva Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant. We are starting our Sarıyer Kilyos Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant. Therefore, these projects are the works that we will finish and start for Istanbul in the upcoming period”. “Of course, we both thank the scientific and technically correct projects initiated before us, and we try to complete them as soon as possible,” said İmamoğlu.

“WE IF WE HAD TO DO THAT PROJECT…”

“We are looking at the tender processes; transparent, if it is done correctly, we embrace it and carry out the process accordingly. But there are some projects that, for example, we did not do. For example, Silahtarağa Waste Water Treatment Plant; We did not make it to the shore of the Golden Horn. There is no such refinement in their own strategic plan. So we came, we found a tender in front of us and we canceled it. This treatment plant project was a surprise project. It covers such an area that if the population of that area increases by 2,5 million, there are enough treatment plants to be there. For example, the Baltalimanı, which we will open, still serves that area. But for some reason, they produced a project for whoever produced that Teflon, whoever has a connection there. If we had to do that project, we would be spending 3,5 billion there. We canceled it and we didn't. It was not rational, it was not scientific. This place is not like that. It was the right project. We did. If we had been deceived by that project, if we had started, maybe we would not have been able to complete this project or we would have been delaying it.”

DELIVERED WITH 24 PERCENT PROGRESS

The 1st Stage Wastewater Treatment of Tuzla Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant was commissioned in 1998, and the 2nd Stage Wastewater Treatment in 2009. The current total wastewater treatment capacity of the facility is 250 thousand cubic meters per day. The facility was delivered in June 2019 with 24 percent completion. With the 3rd stage, 400 thousand cubic meters of advanced biological wastewater treatment per day will be added to the facility. Thus, the project, whose capacity will increase to 650 thousand cubic meters per day, will be Turkey's largest advanced biological treatment plant. Costing 1 billion 957 million 90 thousand liras, the facility will reach the capacity to serve a population of 2 million 600 thousand people.

TO SERVICE 4 DISTRICTS

Advanced biological treatment of wastewater originating from Tuzla, Pendik, Kartal and Maltepe districts will be carried out with this facility. With the new advanced biological treatment stage, all of the pollutants in the waste water will be removed and thus the Marmara Sea will be protected in terms of environment, public health and marine life. 3 percent pre-treatment, 69 percent biological, 3,17 percent advanced biological treatment. With the commissioning of the 28rd Stage of Tuzla Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant, pre-treatment decreased to 3 percent, while advanced biological treatment increased to 65 percent.
